Fairy Doors!

7/31/2017

A few weeks ago, we had a Demo here at the store that was themed "Fairy Doors."

The demonstration was a LOT of fun.. and many of the gals left feeling very inspired!! We had ideas for card making as well as ideas for making mini, 3D Fairy Doors! As soon as the Demo was over.. everyone was buzzing with ideas!!

One of our regular customers, Pam Steinmeyer came in to visit with us today and brought in her COLLECTION of Fairy Doors that she made with her grand children!! Check out these stunning works of art..
Picture

Needless to say.. I was SCREAMING with excitement!! (The other customers in the store just had to see too.. I couldn't contain how THRILLED I was to see these little doors!!)

The base of each of these 3D doors is just a small metal tin. These tins are from Taylored Expressions (an Altoid tin also works perfectly). To make the front, Pam used popsicle sticks and "distressed" them using some brown ink.

She used a combination of die-cuts, charms, buttons, and brads to make these little scenes!!

This Garden Fairy one is just SO CUTE!!
I LOVE her use of all the different die-cuts.. immediately I recognized the Mini-Fairies from Poppy!! All the foliage comes from a variety of different companies, including the Mushrooms and Greenery from Cottage Cutz! It was SO FUN looking through each of these little boxes to see a world of wonder.. I am just SO impressed!!

Picture
I LOVE this mini kitchen!!!
Then, Pam showed me a MERMAID one she created!!

I was shocked that she was able to find these little shapes like the mermaid.. guess what? IT'S A BUTTON!!!
Picture
On the front, she used real shells and a piece of drift wood!!

On the inside, she used a combination of different die-cuts.. the ocean ones from Memory Box I noticed immediately! The Curious Octopi, Wandering Jellyfish, and the Seaweed Collage worked PERFECTLY here!! As well as the Seaweed Ribbons.

I just couldn't get over how perfect the Anchor sticker from Little B worked out and the small circle stickers from Stampendous as the bubbles!! SO CLEVER!!
Of course, for the card makers out there.. the Fairy Door concept is still an option!!

AREN'T THESE THE CUTEST!!??
Picture
The "Doors" here are actually cut out of 12" x 12" scrapbook paper.. This one specifically is by BoBunny, the name of the paper is Bella Rosa Aryia
Pam used a combination of fairy die-cuts to create these scenes.. here we have the Mini-Fairies again as well as Thoughtful Faerie.. both are by Poppy

The Wildflower Border (by Memory Box) is one of my favorites.. and her layering of the die-cut in a variety of colors really set off these cards..
I LOVED how she used the Bird Trio from Cottage Cutz here! She popped them up so they look more 3D!!

Isn't she SO CLEVER with the door knobs? She used a scrap she had laying around and put a gem in the center to make the idea of the knob!! I LOVE IT!!
I was just OVER THE MOON to see these creations!! I am still just so impressed.. and did you see all the different mushrooms she used?!?! I love it all...

If you would like to learn more about the Fairy Doors.. stop by and see us!! We would LOVE to share this wonderful little idea with you.. and who knows? You might be inspired to make your own Fairy Doors!!

We JUST got in a whole bunch of new papers from India!! These gorgeous prints are made out of recycled cotton and have a heavier weight to them which makes them ideal for card making, book making, or even as decorative bookmarks!
Picture
These papers come in small sheets - 8 1/2" x 11" as well as in the Parent Sheets - 22" x 30"

This company makes some STUNNING marbled images as well!!
Picture
I LOVED looking through these new colors!!!
My favorite part about this order? WE GOT IN GIFT BAGS!!

Check out just how cute these are!!!
Picture
There are 3 different sizes available and they are sturdy and just as beautiful as the paper they are made out of!
Did you see there is even a wine bag option?!!? It is a nice soft color so it will match any bottle of champagne or wine that you have selected
Picture
Picture
The other thing that these papers are good for... decorating little boxes!!

Tuesday with Wendy, July 11th

7/14/2017

This week for Tuesday with Wendy, the cards were all very artistic and had a tone-on-tone (or monochromatic) appearance to them.

All 3 cards were just STUNNING!! I had a lot of fun looking at the cards and seeing how each of them were just a little different than the next!
Picture
The first card in the series was done using this beautiful color combination of blues and purples.

Picture
  • Wendy started out by using a piece of Kromkote paper (which has a glossy finish on one side)
  • She used this stencil by The Crafter's Workshop, Circle Explosion and Versafine inks Imperial Purple and Majestic Blue.
  • Using daubers, Wendy transferred the ink to the paper using the stencil as the overlay.
  • Then, Wendy embossed the ink she just stamped with Detail Clear embossing powder.
  • Once the image is dry, Wendy used 2 colors of Distress Ink, Dusty Concord and Mermaid Lagoon. She applied some ink to her craft mat, spritzed with water, and did an ink transfer onto the paper again.  (*This technique is shown step-by-step in the last Tuesday with Wendy blog post*)
  • The results are astounding!! The dots come across as dark but the background remains soft! The tone-on-tone effect is just beautiful.
  • Wendy finished off the card with a die-cut from Elizabeth Craft, Ready to Bloom
The next card was made using 2 different stamps. The main image is a series of circles that comes from Stampotique. It almost has a Zentangle feel to it!! The image was stamped and embossed in Detail Black embossing powder.
Picture
Now the background:

If you look closely at the card above, you will see that on the left side of the black ribbon, she used a piece of Kromkote paper
  • On the piece of Kromkote paper, Wendy used the ink transfer technique (on the craft mat) with Distress inks Worn Lipstick and Abandoned Coral, as well as a Colorburst color, Lemon Yellow *
*Just like in the last Tuesday with Wendy class, apply the ink to your craft mat, spritz with water, and do a lift onto your paper which will transfer the ink*
  •  THEN she used DIFFERENT ink for colorizing the base of the card, which was originally a light pink piece of paper.
  • Wendy used the new Distress Oxide ink colors Worn Lipstick and Spiced Marmalade. Wendy applied the inks directly to the paper and spritzed the paper with water to activate the inks.
  • Wendy mounted the colorized piece of Kromekote onto the front of the colorized card. The tone-on-tone effect here looks SO GREAT! She then stamped the Dotty Turnabout stamp over the entire surface using the 2 Distress Oxide ink colors.
  • Using the texture stamps, also in the Dotty Turnabout Concord & 9th stamp set, Wendy stamped over the dots using Archival Black ink.
  • She finished off the card with just a touch of black dotted ribbon, made by May Arts

HOW FUN IS THAT!!??!
The last card Wendy made was inspired by this stamp  by Fred B. Mullett.
Picture
  • Using that same Dotty Turnabout stamp set, Wendy first created the background texture!! We loved how the textured circle matched up so perfectly with the texture already in the stamp!
  • Wendy then used 3 colors of the Distress Oxide inks, Faded Jeans, Wilted Violet, and Peeled Paint and applied the ink directly to the black paper.
  • She used a bit of textured ribbon by May Arts for behind the fish image.. just to add some interest.
  • To colorize the fish image, Wendy used the same 3 Distress Oxide ink colors and applied them directly to the white paper the fish image had been stamped on. Wendy did a light spritz of water which gave the colors a soft watercolor effect.
  • The colors match BEAUTIFULLY!! She popped the fish image up using pop dots
We just LOVED the cards this week!! The next Tuesday with Wendy class will be on August 8th! Call or come in to sign up! 360-647-9663

NEW PAPER!!!!

7/8/2017

I LOVE when we get new paper in at the store!!! It is just so fun to see all the new prints!

We got in two new paper lines this week: Under the Sea by Echo Park and Cartopia by CartaBella
I just got SO EXCITED when I saw these lines!! As soon as I saw the Submarine paper from the Under the Sea collection, I knew EXACTLY which die-cut I would pair it with! This is Family of Fish by Memory Box
This paper line also has ADORABLE stamps!! I just *fell in love*
Picture
When I saw the Cartopia line.. I immediately had to make a scrapbook page idea! It is just *perfect* for showcasing photos from a road trip!!

I got inspired from ideas on Pinterest (YES, even us creative ladies need Pinterest to get inspired sometimes!!) I loved this idea of folding a page back to expose a pattern underneath and then tacking it in place using a Glue Dot and an orange button. How cute is that?!?
Bekah and I brainstormed ideas on how to make this page fun without making it TOO busy.

I used this die cut from Memory Box, Pinpoint Single Frame. I cut it out of a piece of red paper two times and backed the cutout with black paper. The effect looks almost like a photo strip! It is simple enough to make the page look complete instead of too busy... and gives a nice space to add a couple photos.
We were looking everywhere in the store for a good title for the page.. and then it hit me!! (no pun intended)

This die-cut from Sizzix, Regal Crest is the PERFECT shape for an interstate sign!! We used two styles of lettering die-cuts, also from Sizzix, to make the little sign. I AM IN LOVE!!! I could not be happier with how it turned out.. what a fun idea!!

To finish off the page, we used these car stickers by Mrs. Grossman's, a bit of Crystal Lacquer and a touch of Star Dust Stickles. I just HAD to add the lacquer to the little head lights! The Stickles were perfect for adding a prickle to the cactus!
I also made a couple cards using this same paper line and they were TOO CUTE! This Happy Summer die-cut is made by Taylored Expressions
Picture
This Adventure die-cut is part of a set, campfire sayings, by Cottage Cutz
With all the other die-cuts we carry.. you can be inspired with other ideas too!! This Old Woody holding a surf board (made by Impression Obsession) would be a perfect addition to any card or page using this paper!
Picture
It sure is fun to create! Stop by and see us this weekend.. we would LOVE to share these ideas with you!!
