Woodgrain Ideas with Paper

5/10/2019

For Demo this week we explored the wonderful world of using Woodgrain ideas in your paper crafting!!

Check out some of these fun ideas!!
Picture
First off, there are SO MANY OPTIONS for woodgrain papers here at the store!!

You can use papers that are already printed with a woodgrain appearance and these are the ones we currently have in stock!
Picture
These papers are EMBOSSED with a woodgrain texture on ONE SIDE:
Picture
When making cards, you can incorporate the Woodgrain texture in a variety of different ways!!

If you have a home die-cut machine, you can use this wonderful Woodgrain Embossing Folder from Taylored Expressions.

Picture
Picture
I liked the idea of just embossing a thin, plain paper bag.
  • Emboss a small, flat paper bag using the Woodgrain Embossing Folder, making sure that the ragged lip of the paper bag is also embossed. (So you can tuck a note into it!!)
  • Run a Distress Ink, Walnut Stain ink pad across the textured side of the paper bag and cut your paper bag so it is only one-layer thick.
  • Cut a piece of card stock to fit on the front of a card base. Wrap the embossed paper bag around the front of the piece of card stock and glue in place with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive. Mount this piece onto the front of your card base.

  • Stamp a sentiment onto a piece of brown card stock and tuck the little note into the lip of the paper bag!!
  • Use Distress Oxide ink pad, Worn Lipstick and a Waterbrush to watercolor the flowers. Finish off the card by adding a small ribbon along the bottom of the card
Picture

Picture
When it comes to the paper that is already EMBOSSED with woodgrain, you can colorize the woodgrain yourself using Distress Inks and the Nuvo Blending Sponges!
Picture
Picture
I LOVED this look of creating a little garden shed using the embossed woodgrain paper and little charms!!!
Picture
Honestly.. you can color your embossed woodgrain card stock ANY COLOR YOU WANT!!!! That way it is sure to match the project you are working on...
Picture
Check out this idea... if you are looking to make the "1970's wood plank" it is easy to do with Kraft Sticker Paper and a score board!!
Picture
Once you score your sticker paper, apply the paper to a piece of card stock, the "planks" will smash together. Then, when you run a Distress Ink pad, Walnut Stain, across the "planks" they give a Distressed-look as well as giving them more definition.
Picture
Picture
One of my FAVORITE ideas was SO EASY... just scrape 2 colors of ink pads across a piece of white cardstock, Then CUT IT INTO STRIPS and paste them back down with 1/8" between each "plank"

IT LOOKS LIKE AN OLD FENCE!!!!!
Picture
Picture
I LOVE THIS WOODGRAIN!!! I had a lot of fun with this idea... You can use the Faber Castell Small Brush Tip pen to create the thin lines AND the chunky lines!!
Picture
Picture
Picture
I used the Picket Fence Blending Brushes to apply a soft layer of ink to the page to add interest...
Picture
You can also use your Score Board to create Planks!!
Picture
Once you create your planks, you can ink the edges of each plank by rubbing the folds against a brown ink pad!! I added in the little "nails" by just using a fine-line black pen.
Picture
You can also create a fun Wood-Plank Fence!!!

When I do this, I cut my paper into strips, then I cut ONE strip with a point and used that as a template to cut my other wood planks.

I used the Faber Castell Fine-line black pen to add in the lines of woodgrain.
Picture
I used my Tim Holtz Blending Tool to "ink" the edges of my planks before I adhered them down.
Picture

I love this ivory woodgrain paper!! The lines on the paper make it really easy to cut out the planks and make a fun fence!!
Picture
I loved the idea of crows on a fence...

I stamped the Crow Trio stamp (from Impression Obsession) on the paper FIRST and then I lined up the planks to create a 3-Dimensional Fence
Picture
Picture
Check out this sweet idea making a flower box!!!

This woodgrain Flower Box stamp is from Impression Obsession. I stamped it with Versafine Clair ink, Nocturne

Then I tucked in all these fun flowers from this sweet Cottage Cutz Floral die-cut set and the botanicals from this Tim Holtz/Sizzix Greenery set
Picture
Picture
Picture
I LOVE this new Tree Ring Stencil from Altenew!!!

I decided to play with this idea.. I first used the Picket Fence Blending Brushes and brushed a light color of Distress Ink, Walnut Ink

THEN I went in with a few sizes of fine-line Faber Castell black pens to add in the "grain" and it is SO AMAZING!!!!

I LOVE THIS LOOK!!
Picture
Picture
The Blending Brushes are SO WONDERFUL for applying inks because the color blends out color until it disappears!
Picture
Picture
One of the EASIEST ideas for creating the woodgrain look is to use Tombow Brush Markers!

The brush markers are great because you can do fine-lines AND thick lines. I love having the tones of dark and light lines.
Picture
Once you have drawn your lines, you can make it less-intense by just spritzing on a light mist of water
Picture
Woodgrain texture is so much fun to play with!! You can make signs, you can cut it up to make "planks", you can do card making and SO MUCH MORE!!

Stop by the store to get inspired!!

See you soon!!

Chevron Glitter Paper!!

1/9/2018

We have been carrying the Chevron Glitter Paper by doodlebug for a number of years now and I just want to take a moment and share with you some *FUN, NEW IDEAS!!*
Picture
The Chevron Glitter Paper can be used in LOTS of ways!!

One of the easiest things you can do with this paper is cut along the chevron edge to give your paper a fun border!

Check out this idea where we stamped out a Graduation Background stamp and then framed it out with the Black Chevron Glitter Paper above and below the image!
Picture
Picture
On the INSIDE of the card, I cut out an extra piece of the chevron and placed a die-cut that says "Party!" on the inside!!

Great card idea to make invitations for a Graduation Party!
Picture
If you just want to make a card... just for fun or to give to a friend... this idea is easy to do!!

With a couple stamps, turquoise card stock and Orange Chevron Glitter Paper, you can make this card too!!

Again, we just cut out the edge of the paper, following the chevron design, and it's enough to add a little bit of interest to the bottom of the card!
Picture
Here at the store, we have a *Die-cut Machine* that customers get to use! The shapes are fairly basic, but there are some REALLY FUN shapes in there!

One of the shapes is this adorable little mitten!
Picture
We cut 2 mittens out of the Purple Chevron Glitter Paper, added some fun ribbon along the base of the mitten, and attached the 2 pieces by creating a "hinge" so it can open up!!

The little mitten shape *fits a gift card perfectly* !!
Picture
Another one of the shapes from our store die-cut machine is this adorable Champagne Bottle!!

I wanted to make this a card that you can use for ANY event... New Year's, a Wedding, a Retirement...

So I just did a black and gold color palette and used SHINY RIBBONS as the "champagne!"

To finish off the card, I used this die-cut from Cottage Cutz, Celebrate
Picture
Picture
If you've ever wanted to make a "gate fold" style card.. make it even MORE SPECTACULAR by adding a heart! Cut your heart in half, add a sentiment, and finish off the card by adding some ribbon!

We also used this Heart Embossing Folder from Taylored Expressions to make this card *even better*

Fairy Doors!

7/31/2017

A few weeks ago, we had a Demo here at the store that was themed "Fairy Doors."

The demonstration was a LOT of fun.. and many of the gals left feeling very inspired!! We had ideas for card making as well as ideas for making mini, 3D Fairy Doors! As soon as the Demo was over.. everyone was buzzing with ideas!!

One of our regular customers, Pam Steinmeyer came in to visit with us today and brought in her COLLECTION of Fairy Doors that she made with her grand children!! Check out these stunning works of art..
Picture

Needless to say.. I was SCREAMING with excitement!! (The other customers in the store just had to see too.. I couldn't contain how THRILLED I was to see these little doors!!)

The base of each of these 3D doors is just a small metal tin. These tins are from Taylored Expressions (an Altoid tin also works perfectly). To make the front, Pam used popsicle sticks and "distressed" them using some brown ink.

She used a combination of die-cuts, charms, buttons, and brads to make these little scenes!!

This Garden Fairy one is just SO CUTE!!
I LOVE her use of all the different die-cuts.. immediately I recognized the Mini-Fairies from Poppy!! All the foliage comes from a variety of different companies, including the Mushrooms and Greenery from Cottage Cutz! It was SO FUN looking through each of these little boxes to see a world of wonder.. I am just SO impressed!!

Picture
I LOVE this mini kitchen!!!
Then, Pam showed me a MERMAID one she created!!

I was shocked that she was able to find these little shapes like the mermaid.. guess what? IT'S A BUTTON!!!
Picture
On the front, she used real shells and a piece of drift wood!!

On the inside, she used a combination of different die-cuts.. the ocean ones from Memory Box I noticed immediately! The Curious Octopi, Wandering Jellyfish, and the Seaweed Collage worked PERFECTLY here!! As well as the Seaweed Ribbons.

I just couldn't get over how perfect the Anchor sticker from Little B worked out and the small circle stickers from Stampendous as the bubbles!! SO CLEVER!!
Of course, for the card makers out there.. the Fairy Door concept is still an option!!

AREN'T THESE THE CUTEST!!??
Picture
The "Doors" here are actually cut out of 12" x 12" scrapbook paper.. This one specifically is by BoBunny, the name of the paper is Bella Rosa Aryia
Pam used a combination of fairy die-cuts to create these scenes.. here we have the Mini-Fairies again as well as Thoughtful Faerie.. both are by Poppy

The Wildflower Border (by Memory Box) is one of my favorites.. and her layering of the die-cut in a variety of colors really set off these cards..
I LOVED how she used the Bird Trio from Cottage Cutz here! She popped them up so they look more 3D!!

Isn't she SO CLEVER with the door knobs? She used a scrap she had laying around and put a gem in the center to make the idea of the knob!! I LOVE IT!!
I was just OVER THE MOON to see these creations!! I am still just so impressed.. and did you see all the different mushrooms she used?!?! I love it all...

If you would like to learn more about the Fairy Doors.. stop by and see us!! We would LOVE to share this wonderful little idea with you.. and who knows? You might be inspired to make your own Fairy Doors!!
