Doodle Ideas from Our Customers

6/17/2019

A few months ago, Wendy taught a demo teaching her take on Doodling. She showed how she would create a page of doodles (like 4 doodles on a page) and then make copies of her doodle creations on both card stock and vellum... giving her a RANGE of possibilities.

Below is pictured her Doodles, the same image is copied onto a piece of card stock AND a piece of vellum
Picture
At demo, Wendy challenged the attendees to do something else with her doodle.. she passed out full card stock sheet of her doodle and asked each attendee to bring back ONE of their ideas!!

Well... you can see that our customers are CREATIVE to say the least!!
Picture
Check out all these amazing ideas!!!

First Design has a circle theme.. and I LOVE what these gals created!!
Picture
I love the texture on this one!! The Beads and Acrylic Paint dots are SO FUN here!! Great use of shape!!
Here, one of our customers used Acrylic and Glitter Paints to emphasize the shape!!
Or look here how this customer used shaped sequins, gems, and Acrylic Paint to embellish the doodle.. I LOVE the colors here!!
These 2 ideas came from Wendy and Elli..

Wendy colored part of her image with a red Tombow Marker and then used the Scribble Circles die-cut from Impression Obsession.

Elli used an X-acto knife to cut out some of the circles and then backed the image with Glitter Paper
The next design that Wendy created was inspiring on a variety of different levels!
Picture
I love how here a customer used BUTTONS to add dimension!!
Awhile back Wendy created this one where she copied her doodle onto Vellum, colored it, and sandwiched it between 2 pieces of card stock (that each had an oval cut out of it) so that the light shines through!!
The details and fine dots on this one make it so you can see new detail each time you look at it.
This was one that Elli created using this Fishing Boat die-cut from Taylored Expressions.. the doodle looked a little like an ocean scene.. so this die-cut fit PERFECTLY with it!
Picture
This doodle had great movement... check out what some of the gals did with this one!!
Picture
Look how one customer made a MINI BOOK!!!! I love this SO MUCH
Check out this AMAZING shadowbox that one of the gals made!!!! The black base and the colors are SO VIBRANT in this creation!!
Check out the AMAZING colors in this one!! I loved how she added the bold pops of black as the focal point in the middle of the art piece!!
Look at this one that Wendy created using her Nuvo Aqua Shimmer Pen and Tombow Markers
Picture
This idea was created by coping the doodle onto vellum, then cutting it apart, gluing it down with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive, and then adding light tones with a White Uniball gel pen
Picture
The geometric shapes in this next one lend for some AMAZING ideas!!
Picture
I LOVE this one where she cut it apart to make it look like buildings!!
Picture
Wendy used the doodle as the background for this fun Laurel Burch stamp from Stampendous.. the geometric shapes work together PERFECTLY
Picture
Elli created this one, again cutting it apart to make it look like shelving!! We added the mini-cats from Impression Obsession to add a FUN flare!
Picture
It's SO AMAZING what you can create with a doodle!!!

If you need help getting started on doodling, stop by the store to get inspired!!

Tuesday with Wendy, April 16th

4/19/2019

Cards from Wendy's card making class this week were SO FUN it was really hard to choose a favorite!!!

I mean, just LOOK how wonderful!!
Picture
The first card that Wendy designed was inspired from this stamp set from Stamper's Anonymous, Funny Farm, as well as these 2 new stencils from Tim Holtz, Gradient Hexagons Layering stencil and the Gradient Squares Layering Stencil
Picture
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out with 2 cut-down pieces of Solar White card stock.
  • On each piece of white card stock, apply a soft layer of Distress Inks using the Picket Fence Blending Brushes. Start with Mustard Seed, then Twisted Citrone, and finally Broken China. Remember to apply a VERY soft layer...
  • Next overlay one of the new Tim Holtz stencils on the papers and apply a darker coat of the Broken China and Twisted Citrone.. you will end up with BEAUTIFUL tone-on-tone designs across both pieces of paper.
  • Next, use your Tim Holtz stamp platform to stamp the farm animals and their words on the back side of ONE of your stenciled papers. Wendy used Versafine Clair, Nocturne ink.
  • On the other stenciled paper, die-cut the holes. Wendy created a nice guide for cutting out the circles.. She used the Hero Arts nesting circles and cut out the paper in 4 areas with 4 sizes of circles. The holes she cut out line up PERFECTLY to allow you to see the animals peeking through the holes!!
  • I LOVE how clever this hinge is!!! To make the 2 pieces of paper fold like a card, she took 2 of the larger circles she cut out and adhered them to the 2 pieces of paper so one half of the circle is on the front of the card and the back half of the circle is on the back of the card...
  • The 2 leftover circles Wendy cut apart to add interest to the INSIDE of the card!! HOW FUN!
This is card is SO, SO, CUTE!!!!
Picture
Picture
The next card that Wendy created was inspired from this STUNNING Seahorse stamp from Indigo Blue as well as this Tim Holtz Stencil, Gradient Circles Layering Stencil and the Round Sponge Stamp from Fred Mullett
Picture
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start with a piece of light blue card stock. On the front of the card, use the clear, Versamark Ink to stamp the  Round Sponge stamp image across the paper.
  • Next, use the Versafine Clair ink, Twilight, to stamp the Seahorse image 3 times on the front of the card, it is ok if the seahorse images overlap the sponge images you just stamped.
  • Now, apply Detail Clear embossing powder to the ENTIRE card front, shake off the excess, and heat-set using a heat-gun.
  • Then, use the ALL NEW Dream Drops from Nuvo (Wendy used the green ones, Dragon Scales) and apply small drops along the edge of the Round Sponge images.
  • Next, take the Tim Holtz Stencil, Gradient Circles and lay it around the edge of the card. Apply a small amount of Nuvo Expanding Mouse, Boatyard Blue using the new Silicone Media Spatulas. Heat-set the image using your Heat-gun and watch as the Expanding Mousse expands and raises with the heat!!!
The last card that Wendy designed was inspired by this ADORABLE Llama stamp set from Creative Expressions!!
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out with a coral-colored card base. Use the Nesting Oval die cuts from Hero Arts to cut out 2 sizes of ovals, one larger one out of Dark Coral card stock and one out of Ice Gold Stardream card stock that is a little bit smaller. Adhere the 2 ovals together using double-sided tape.
  • Stamp the Llama image with Versafine Onyx Black ink onto the Ice Gold card stock. Use Detail Clear embossing powder and heat-set the image.
  • Use Tombow Markers and a Waterbrush to colorize the Llama image.
  • Use one of the filagree stamps to stamp a fun flower filagree in each corner of the front of the card base. Use Tombow markers and the Waterbrush to also colorize the little flowers
  • Use pop-dots to adhere the oval to the front of the card base, centering it between all the filagree stamp images you did in the corners.
  • Finish off the card by applying a few drops of Copper Crystal Drops to the crown of the Llama!
I LOVE how sweet this card is!! The added embellishment on the Llama crown is so sweet..

For those of us who craft ALL THE TIME there are some tools that we use regularly.. and we have FALLEN IN LOVE with these newest tools from Tonic!!

NEW Silicone Media Spatulas!!

Silicone is super easy to clean AND works with a variety of mediums.. from Mousse to Acrylic Paint to Resin... these Silicone Media Spatulas are a MUST HAVE in the craft room... I use mine ALL THE TIME and I am over the moon at the design
Picture
Specifically, they work great with the NEW Expanding Mousse!!
Picture
Picture
We also got in these SUPER SOFT and wonderful Stencil Brushes!!! Great for getting in-between all the intricate lines of your stencils... They come in a pack of 4 brushes. We haven't had a chance to play with them yet but we are EXCITED TO!!
Picture

We also got in... MORE EXPANDING MOUSSE!!!

Picture

Nuvo Expanding Mousse is a kind of Stencil Paste, but when it is wet you can use your Heat-Gun to heat-set it and when you do it PUFFS UP and looks really cool!!!

Picture
Picture
Just look how the Mousse puffs up when heated with the Heat-Gun!!
Picture
AND AND AND

Check out the NEW MIDAS TOUCH Shimmer Pen!!!!

If you are like us, you probably already own the Aqua Shimmer Pen (it is iridescent, great for watercoloring techniques and SHIMMERY!) but now they have come out with a GOLD VERSION!!!
Picture
The Midas Touch Shimmer Pen has a gold hue to it, and in my personal opinion, makes it appear SUPER SHIMMERY!!

Just look at the comparison...
Picture

We got in all 6 colors of the Dream Drops and I can tell you... Bekah owns all 6 colors now!!! And I own 3!!

THEY ARE  SO MAGICAL and AMAZING!!!
If you LOVE the Nuvo Crystal Drops you will be EXCITED TO HEAR we now have:

Vintage Drops
Stone Drops
Dream Drops

Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
YES they are ALSO SELF-LEVELING as well as iridescent!!
Picture
CHECK OUT THIS IDEA!!

You can use your Dream Drops (or any Crystal Drops for that matter) as a STENCIL PASTE!!!!

Here's how:
  • Apply a small amount of Dream Drops to your Silicone Media Spatula
  • Use a stencil on a sheet of paper (or the hole left-over after a die-cut works too...)
  • Smear the Silicone Media Spatula over the stencil and then lift it off and CLEAN IMMEDIATELY (otherwise the medium will bond to the stencil)
  • Look in Aw at how STUNNING the image is!!!! And how cool is this... ANY Crystal or Dream Drops can quickly become a stencil paste... what a fantastic concept.
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
I LOVE the iridescent effect!!!

I paired this background I created with the ALL NEW Sentiment die-cuts from Tonic!!!

Picture
Picture

I decided I wanted to create a soft-background so I cut my die-cut out of 2 shades of white... a metallic card stock (Stardream, Ice Gold) and a matte white card stock (Solar White, Smooth)

JUST LOOK how magical this card is!!
Picture
Ok, ok... Now it's time for MY FAVORITE!!!!!

NEW Gems  and Glitter!!!!!!!!
Picture

Star-shaped glitter is AMAZING for shaker cards, as an embellishment, or to have just because it is amazing!!

The GEMS are flat-backed and include 3 sizes of gems in each container... JUST LOOK HOW MAGICAL!!!
Picture
Picture
I loved this idea... stamping an image and doing some watercolor.  Then framing the image with the purple gems.

I use The Ultimate Glue to adhere my gems to my paper... and the shape/color/sizes make for a WONDERFUL embellishment with this Laurel Burch image, Mermaid Flow
Picture
There is SO MUCH to love here at the store these days... stop by so we can show you JUST HOW WONDERFUL!!!

See you soon!!

Tuesday with Wendy, February 5th

2/5/2019

GREAT cards this week for Wendy's card making class!! As always, Wendy likes to teach new techniques in her Card Making classes. This grouping of cards is just FANTASTIC!!
Picture
The first card Wendy designed was made using the Scribble Circles die-cut from Impression Obsession as well as the Embossing Folder from KaiserCraft, Distressed Dots
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out by first taking a piece of black card stock and embossing it using the Distress Dot Embossing Folder in your Home Die-cut Machine
  • Then use a little bit of Nuvo Mousse, Indian Gold, and rub some on the black card stock you just embossed. We just used our fingers to apply the mousse to the paper. Doing this really brings out the texture from the Embossing Folder!
  • Attach the textured paper to the front of your card base using double-sided tape. Apply some red mesh ribbon along the left side of the card and adhere it with a little bit of The Ultimate Glue
  • Next, Wendy took a piece of Handmade Paper and cut a small piece that has an embossed swirl design in it. She cut 2 small pieces  and put one on the outside and one on the inside of her card.
  • Wendy cut out the die-cut Scribble Circles out of Red Mirricard card stock and used the shapes, bits and pieces to make an interesting design and  art piece on the FRONT of her card and then opened up the card and made ANOTHER art piece on the INSIDE of her card. Wendy adhered the pieces of Red Mirricard using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive
  • Wendy finished off the card by added the Bright Gold Nuvo Crystal Drops occasionally on the front of the card
I LOVE THIS CARD!!!

It not only is FUN AND VIBRANT it also makes for a really great card that can be used for ANY OCCASION
Picture
Picture
... and even better?? EVERYONE'S CARD WAS DIFFERENT!!!
Picture

The next card that Wendy designed was made using this BEAUTIFUL Row of Trees from Stampotique, the Picket Fence Blending Brushes, as well as 4 colors of Distress Ink (Weathered Wood, Stormy Sky, Chipped Sapphire, and Black Soot)
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out by first stamping the Row of Trees image on a piece of Solar White card stock using Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink and Detail Black Embossing Powder
  • Use a LARGE BRUSH from the Picket Fence Blending Brushes set and apply a VERY LIGHT LAYER of Distress Ink Weathered Wood to the entire surface of the white card stock
  • Next, cut out a circle and apply a Removable Glue Dot to the back of it. Stick the circle down in the area above the Row of Trees where a moon would sit in the sky
  • Now use the Large Picket Fence Blending Brush to apply Distress Ink Stormy Sky, Chipped Sapphire, and finally Black Soot
  • Remove the circle and watch as the MOON APPEARS IN THE SKY above the Row of Trees
  • Layer the scene onto a white card stock base
Isn't this card SO BEAUTIFUL?!?! I love how easy it is to create and really has a gorgeous effect... once again this card is great for ANY occasion!
Picture
The last card that Wendy designed was made using this STUNNING floral set from Altenew, Wispy Begonia
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start with placing your flower stamp on your Tim Holtz Stamp Platform
  • Apply the leaf stamps to a Clear Acrylic Block
  • Use a piece of black card stock and stamp the floral image and the 2 leaf images with Versafine Onyx Black ink (Yes, stamp black ink on black card stock)
  • Now, use Prismacolor Pencils to color the floral image and leaves, taking your time to add shadows and monochromatic tones for the flower.
  • Now, stamp the floral stamp AGAIN in the EXACT SAME PLACE with the Versafine Onyx Black ink and use Detail Clear Embossing Powder over the ink. Heat-set the image with a Heat Gun
  • Next, stamp the sentiment, "You are in my thoughts" with Hero Arts Unicorn White ink and apply Pearlustre Rubellite Embossing Powder to the ink and Heat-set (By using the WHITE INK here, the color of the Embossing Powder really pops on the black card stock!! )
SUCH A GREAT CARD!! And perfect for the upcoming Spring season!!
Picture
Once again, EVERYONE'S card was a little different!! I love these florals!!

Paper Terrariums

12/15/2018

Have you always loved the look of botanicals? Check out this idea for making your own faux terrariums using paper!!
Picture
You can create paper terrariums using paper, ribbons and embellishments...

We like to think outside the box... and one of the first ideas we came up with was using this Poinsettia die-cut to create a cactus by folding it inwards.
Picture
You can see how we added texture to the little cactus by using the Nuvo Crystal Drops and a little "flower" by using a small amount of ribbon..
Picture
Picture
Check out this idea to make a 3 Dimensional "Dome Terrariums" ... Just 2 pieces of Acetate cut two half-ovals and cut a slit in each one to make it 3D. We placed an Acetate circle down as the base and used The Ultimate Glue to adhere the dome top to the base

Then, we used Fake Flowers and faux botanical items to fill the Terrarium..
Picture
Picture
To make the topper of the the little Terrarium, we used a Thimble Charm from our charms collection!!

It is the *perfect shape* for the terrarium!!
I loved the idea of making a Winter Terrarium scene.. Here we used a combination of different die-cuts as well as some mesh-textured ribbons..

This is a quick terrarium idea.. Just a piece of Acetate cut 3" x 12" glued with Hot Glue to an Acetate circle base ... and look how the little Thimble Charm looks with the terrarium!

I love the look of the snowy-white papers together.. SO BEAUTIFUL!
Picture
Picture
You can make a little garden in a terrarium by just pairing together all the botanical die-cuts, ribbons, and fake flowers

You can cut out a box using the die-cut machine here at the store. This little box is *technically* a cupcake box, but you can make it a mini-terrarium in no time at all!!
Picture
Or make a quick Terrarium out of Acetate... and add in the little flowers and foliage!!
Picture
Picture
This is a Terrarium die-cut from Hero Arts... it kind of looks like a 3D geometric shape...
Picture
By pairing it with a few botanical die-cuts, and adding a bit of twine, you can really make it into a great card!!
Picture
This is one of my ALL-TIME favorite Garden Greens set from Sizzix.. it is SO GOOD!!!
Picture
