Advent Calendar, 2017

11/25/2017

It seems like every year we get more and more people coming in looking to make their own Advent Calendar!!

Each year, we put together a design to inspire you.. last year we made a shadow-box style calendar.. and this year we are using *mini envelopes* !!

To make the calendar, you will need:

One large sheet Mi Tients Red Paper (19 3/4" x 25 1/2")
One piece of Poster Board
25 Mini Envelopes
Double-sided tape
Little tags or labels
The Ultimate Glue and/or Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive
Crystal Drops (1 or 2 colors)
3-5 colors of cardstock to go inside the envelopes
Stickers or other items to put in envelopes

To start, take your 25 Mini Envelopes and turn the flap inwards so you can easily put items in the envelopes
Picture
Next, you will need to cut down your Poster Board just slightly so that it will frame-out the Red Mi Tients Paper nicely.

Poster Board - 20 3/4" x 26 1/2"
Red Mi Tients - 19 3/4" x 25 1/2"

I generally use an X-acto Knife and a ruler to cut the Poster Board.. but if you don't have those things, using a ruler, pencil, and a pair of scissors will also work.
Picture
Once you have folded-in all your envelopes, take your 3 pieces of colored cardstock and cut them using a paper cutter.

You will need 25 squares that measure 2 1/2" x 2 1/2".

These will be the little notes that go inside each envelope.
We chose a few different shades of green and red cardstock..
Then, we started laying out the shape of the calendar.. . See how Bekah laid it out to look like a tree?!?! SO CUTE.

Take note that she used one of our Star-Shaped Ribbons to add the star on the top!! LOVE IT!!
Picture
Picture
I used my ruler to be certain that my tree was centered on my Red Mi Tients Paper!!

I found that 7" from the bottom left corner was a good place to lay down my first envelope. I made sure to do the *same thing* from the right corner.
Picture
Once you have decided where to place each of the envelopes, used double-sided tape to adhere them to the Red Mi Tients Paper
Picture
Then, we used this new label set from Sizzix, Tag Dies to make the little tag shapes!!

*If you don't have a die-cut machine to make these, we have a basic tag shape in our STORE die-cut machine that customers are welcome to use*

I figured out which tag went where.. BUT BEFORE I TAPE THEM DOWN I wanted to add my numbers!!
Picture
I used the Nuvo Crystal Drops to draw the numbers!!

*You can use a pencil first and then trace over it with the Crystal Drops* if you don't think you can do it free-hand!
Picture
Once your tags are all cut out, your numbers drawn and THEY HAVE FULLY DRIED, use glue (we used the Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive) to adhere a tag to the front of each envelope.
Then, we took some of our Christmas-themed ribbons and made little bows!!
Picture
Using The Ultimate Glue, adhere a bow to the top of each tag!! It really adds an extra touch.. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE
Picture
To finish it off, we cut  out some fun Christmas Greenery using the Sizzix die-cut Holiday Greens.

Using The Ultimate Glue again, we put the Greenery on the upper 2 corners of the Red Mi Tients Paper
Picture
Picture
Last, but not least, TIME TO ADD IN THE FUN STUFF!!

We used the Removable Glue Dots to put little things on the paper note cards inside each envelope..

You can add stickers, coins, even a small piece of candy!! The possibilities are endless!!
Have Fun!!!

DIY Snowflake Tutorial

12/13/2016

If you have been into the store this past week you may have seen our new Winter decorations going up!!
Just like every year, we made snowflakes! In the past, we've done a variety of styles.. but this year's are my FAVORITE!!

Picture
Today, I am going to show you step-by-step how to make these beautiful snowflakes.. and this craft is great for kids and adults!!

For the snowflakes, I started out by choosing some shades of white and gold.. I just LOVE these colors together!! We used text weight Stardream paper (which is a soft metallic color) for making the snowflakes.. in the light you can really see the snowflakes glisten!

I also created my own music paper by copying an old music book onto some ivory colored paper... I just love how the music notes tie everything together!!
To make a large snowflake (shown above),  take 3 pieces of text weight paper and cut it down to the following measurements:
(6) pieces 1" x 8 1/2" -group A
(6) pieces 1" x 8 1/2" -group B
(6) pieces 1" x 11" - group C
**Note that in the photo below, groups A and B are pictured together because I cut them out of the same music paper**
You will need to create loops with the paper, which is easy to do!

With group A, fold the pieces over once using double sided tape to just tape the ends together.
With group B, fold the pieces in half, then open the fold and bring the ends to the center, creating a double loop
With group C, fold the pieces in half, open the fold, and bring the ends to the center, creating another double loop.
You should now have 3 groups of looped paper, shown below:
Picture
Then, arrange your loops as seen in the pictures below:
You can attach them using double-sided tape or a stapler!!

Once you've assembled all your loops, cut out 2 circles (I used a 1 inch scalloped circle punch).
Use hot glue, apply a dollop to one side of a circle and arrange your 6 snowflake sprigs on it.
The glue dries fast, so work quickly!!
Once you've arranged and securely glued the sprigs down, glue the second circle on top (opposite of the first circle).
Use a *tiny* hole punch to punch a hole at the top of the snowflake. String a bit of twine through the top so you can hang it up!! Make sure to knot the bottom of the twine so it doesn't pull through the hole! I used a small bit of glue to secure the knot in place.
Look how beautiful they are!!! Now that you know how to make them.. you can make them in a variety of sizes!!!
Picture
Check out this idea.. Wendy wanted to make ornaments!! Instead of cutting 1" strips, cut your strips to just 1/2" wide and make even smaller snowflakes!! String on a few gold beads and you have a simple and elegant ornament!! What a clever idea.. and I just love how she used Rossi Italian Papers to accent her ornaments!! So creative!
Picture
This is such a great craft activity with brilliant results!!
Come in to see all our decorations.. we'd love to show you ideas to help you design your own decor for the holidays!

Fall Has Arrived at Stampadoodle

9/11/2016

Brand new banners just went up this week for Fall!!

We love making banners and hanging decorations for each season, and after Lydia had her demo a few weeks ago, Fall Decor, we just HAD to use the little pumpkin dangle!!

Picture
Picture
The pumpkins are made using strips from pieces of 12 x 12 pieces of paper. Each strip is cut into strips that are 1 inch wide and the lengths vary depending on the size of pumpkin you want to create! The outer strips need to be about 1 inch longer than the inside strips in order to create the bulbous shape. Using a stapler, she just stapled the groupings together. Did you see the little toppers she made for the vines?! SO CUTE.

This style of art is similar to quilling, in that you can create shapes from strips of paper!!
Picture
Now onto making the banner!

We used the Banner Punch Board by WE R. If you haven't seen this tool yet, you have got to swing by the store to check it out! The punch board comes with the templates to make 3 different styles of banner shapes and it allows you to make banners that are just 1 inch wide -- for cards-- aaallll the way up to 8 inches wide --- for events!! And, it even has a built in punch so all you need is string to make your banner customized! (We also twine and ribbon by the yard, and we have an AMAZING selection!)

When we cut out our banner, we used patterned and solid papers that had a fall-theme. We also wanted to use some images to make the banner really *pop.* We decided on images that had a fall-feel that were not too "Halloween" since we want to keep this banner up until Thanksgiving. The images we chose were: raven, branchy tree, and 3 leaf shapes from our die-cut machine.
Picture
The raven we used is actually a stamp from Impression Obsession. We stamped the image on a page and scanned it into our computer. Lydia used a graphics program to darken the image and we copied it off onto colored cardstock. Then, we used a circle from our die-cut machine to cut out the ravens.
The Trim Tree die-cut is one from Memory Box and WE LOVE IT. With the fall paper, it just looks so good!!
Aside from the new banner, we got it a rather large selection of papers this week, pushing about 60 new papers with even more on the way... and we have choices for hunting, birthday, winter, even some that have a Seahawks style design.. you'll have to stop by to see them all!!

While you are here, Check out the demo case to see this adorable Halloween decoration using just twine, papers, and ribbon!!
Picture
Don't forget to check out the samples, as we always try to have inspiration around!! Feel free to take as many photos as you like, and don't forget to tell your friends to stop by Stampadoodle when they come through town!
