Doodle Ideas and MORE!

6/8/2019

This last week for Demo, we had to have a *quick* last minute change due to someone feeling under the weather... so it was Wendy's turn to come up with an idea on the fly!!

Check out these ideas!!
Picture
I love what Wendy creates when she is in her Element!!!

So this first idea is really clever... Wendy wanted to create a fun art piece. She started with the 140 lb. Cold Press Watercolor Paper
Picture
Wendy took a large kitchen platter and traced a circle onto her piece of watercolor paper.

THEN Wendy went online and found a public domain image of a Raven and printed it off A FEW TIMES.

Wendy cut out the Raven first...
Picture
  • I love this idea using the ORIGINAL SHAPES as her stencils so she new how to create the bird shape!
  • When you cut out the RAVEN ONLY you end up with a basic stencil! (for a sturdier stencil, you can print your image onto card stock). Wendy TRACED THE RAVEN so she got the basic bird shape in the middle of her circle.
  • Next, Wendy cut out a wing of the Raven, laid it down in the middle of her Raven tracing, and traced the wing
  • Then, Wendy cut out the other wing shapes, laid them down, and traced them. She did the same with the beak.
  • Wendy ended up with a line drawing of the bird shape...  THEN she filled the shape with doodles!!!
  • Wendy used one of her FAVORITE doodle pens, the Black Glaze Pen
Picture
I love how she created her own branch and filled the space with some "woodgrain" shapes and then filled the other negative spaces with small dots, geometric shapes, swirls, and MORE!!
Picture
Picture
Just look at the detail!! What a FUN concept!!
Picture
The other idea that Wendy had was making an Interactive Card in a NEW WAY
Picture
Wendy started out by stamping her Stampscapes Pine Tree Stamp along the bottom edge of her card. She created the background using her Picket Fence Blending Brushes and circle for masking off the moon. Wendy likes to use Distress Inks for creating this effect because the colors blend BEAUTIFULLY together.
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
To glaze the image, Wendy used Versamark Ink and Detail Clear embossing powder.

Wendy taught the "glazing" technique from a past Tuesday with Wendy class and you can find the step-by-step up tutorial in this previous blog post: https://www.stampadoodle.com/stampadoodle-blog/tuesday-with-wendy-may-21st
Picture
Wendy created a gate-fold card and placed the glazed piece at the TOP of the card so that when you lift up the flap you see a gate fold hidden underneath!!

I love how Wendy used these Tree Line die-cuts from Memory Box and CUT THEM IN HALF so that half of the tree lines are on the left gate fold and half of them are on the right gate fold.

She arranged the layers so that the trees on the RIGHT overlap the trees on the left.
Picture
Picture
On the inside of the card she placed this Oval Tree Frame that I love SO MUCH!! Perfect place for writing a sentiment!!
Picture
What a fun card idea!! (And a great card for men! Hunting, camping, fishing.. the themes are endless!!)

Tuesday with Wendy, June 4th

6/7/2019

I love how fun the cards are from this last week of Tuesday with Wendy card making class!!!
Picture
This first card was inspired by the Nesting Circles and Nesting Rounded Rectangles die-cuts from Hero Arts!!
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out with a piece of thick Vellum. WEAR GLOVES while you colorize your piece of Vellum with Alcohol inks. To do this, pick up a small piece of wool (for Alcohol Inks) and apply a little bit of Alcohol Blending Solution to the wool. THEN apply a couple drops of 2 colors of Alcohol Ink onto the wool (Wendy chose 2 colors from Ranger, Turquoise and Limeade). Smoosh the piece of wool onto the surface of the vellum until the vellum is covered in color!
  • Now use your home die-cut machine to cut a piece of black card stock with one of the larger Rounded Rectangle die cuts
  • Now, take the piece of black card stock that you just cut with the die-cut machine and cut out a series of circles. Wendy used the Nesting Circle Infinity Dies because you can get SO MANY SIZES of circles!! When you overlay the piece of card stock (that has the circles cut out of it) on top of the Alcohol Inked Vellum, you get the color peeking through.
  • On each of the circles, press them into on of 2 Distress Oxide ink pads (the Distress Oxide inks show up on black paper). Wendy chose the Distress Oxide ink colors Twisted Citrone and Peacock Feathers
  • Now, it's time to put the card together!! Start with a teal-colored card base. Next, adhere the BLACK CARD STOCK TO THE VELLUM (yes the piece of black card stock with the circles cut out of it). That way you can apply the adhesive onto the vellum in the areas that are covered up by the black card stock. Wendy used the Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive to adhere the Vellum to a piece of white card stock. Wendy used a pair of scissors to trim the piece of white card stock to be the same size as the vellum. Then Wendy used double-sided tape to adhere the layered pieces to the front of her card base.
  • Finally, layer the circles on the front of the card arranging them in a fun way! Wendy used pop dots for dimension and added in gems for an extra *bling* element!!
I love how fun and funky this card is!! Of course, the added Gems are always fun for adding focal points!
Picture
The next card that Wendy created was inspired from this *Wonderful* stamp set from Altenew, Everlasting Happiness
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out with a piece of black card stock. Using your Tim Holtz stamp platform, stamp the largest floral circle onto the front of the card base using Versafine Clair, Nocturne
  • Then, use Prismacolor Pencils to color the florals, leaves and sprigs
  • Next, put your piece of black card stock back into the Tim Holtz stamp platform and stamp down the largest floral circle AGAIN and it should land in the same spot. Then use Detail Black embossing powder across the entire image. Heat set the image
  • Then, stamp the the sentiment, Celebrate Life, onto a strip of white card stock. Using a fine line black pen (such as a Le Pen) and a ruler, add a thin line above and below the sentiment to add a focal point.
  • Wrap the strip of white paper around the front of the black paper and use double-sided tape to adhere it to the back of the card stock. Mount this onto a piece of aqua-colored card stock and adhere it all to the front of a purple card stock base
Just LOOK HOW STUNNING this card is!!! I love the pop of color!!
Picture
The last card that Wendy created was ALSO inspired by the Altenew stamp set, Everlasting Happiness
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out with a half-sheet of yellow card stock. Score the paper at 2 1/8" from the left AND 2 1/8" from the right to create a gate-fold card.
  • Use your home die-cut machine to cut out 2 ivory circle shapes. Also cut out a pink polka dot circle and a purple polka dot circle of the same size.  Stamp the small floral circle onto each of the ivory card stock circles. Inside the circles, stamp a sentiment. Wendy stamped "Love Grows Here" and "Dream" inside each of the circles with the same color of stamp ink, Versafine Clair ink, Medieval Blue
  • On the LEFT gate fold, AT THE TOP, adhere the purple polka dot circle and one of the floral circles, making sure to make them off-set
  • On the RIGHT gate fold, AT THE BOTTOM, adhere the pink polka dot circle and the other floral circle, again making sure they are off-set.
  • On another piece of  ivory card stock, stamp JUST THE FLOWERS part of one of the small floral circles. Wendy did this by using an acrylic block and lining up the flowers on the top, left, and right side. Then, Wendy pasted the card stock with the florals on the INSIDE of the gate fold.
  • To finish off the card, Wendy took a piece of decorative floral paper and scored it at the top so that it folds over the top to the back just slightly (about a 1/4" overlap). The piece will fold over the front.
  • The last thing she did was fold the card closed and made a 12" strip with yellow card stock, about an inch wide, and adhered it with double-sided tape. Wendy tied a sheer coral-colored ribbon around the yellow strip and tied a knot on the front.
I love how bright and summery this card is!!

I love how fun it is to interact with all the flaps and openings!

Nesting Die-Cuts, Beyond the Frame

5/24/2019

For Demo last week, Bekah was the Demonstrator and she had some WONDERFUL ideas for using her Nesting die-cuts.

Just LOOK HOW STUNNING these cards are!!!
Picture
I love that she used these Nesting die-cuts in a NEW WAY!!!

Check out how she used the Nesting Diamonds from Tonic and these Nesting Hearts ... and the combination of the textured papers and colors makes for a GREAT CARD!!!!

Check out this next idea using the Stitched Star die-cuts from Memory Box!!
Picture
I love how Bekah used the banner die-cut from Taylored Expressions with DIFFERENT sentiments!! Her sayings go *PERFECTLY* with this card!!

Picture
Bekah also used this Wide Washi Tape from Altenew and I LOVE IT with the stars!!

This really is a WONDERFUL card... great for Birthdays or Graduation!!
Picture

I love this masculine card that she created using the Nesting Hexagons from Tonic and this Jalopy as the focal point .... There are SO MANY great ideas happening here!!
Picture
What I love the most about this card is all the fun TEXTURES of paper!!! And the added gears with the car makes for such a great card idea!!
Picture
Picture
Did you see here how she made the Jolopy SHINY?!?! She used PACKING TAPE on the car, THEN cut it out using her home die cut machine!! Such a clever idea for making a car looked glazed (with minimal effort!!)

Tuesday with Wendy, May 7th

5/10/2019

I love the BRIGHT, SPRING cards from class this week!!! Just look how beautiful they are!! Wendy really is in the Spring-Mode this time!!
Picture
The first card that Wendy created was inspired from this new fairy stamp from Lavinia, Sky and this sentiment, also from Lavinia,  Secrets are Hidden
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out with a blank card base, Wendy used the Sundance Felt card stock, white (this paper has a felt texture that is really nice!)
  • Wendy used a piece of the Alexandra Renke paper, Ginko Leaves, on the left side of the card front. DO NOT TAPE IN PLACE, only use a very small piece of tape to "tack" it in place
  • Next, Wendy used her Tim Holtz Stamp Platform to stamp the sentiment and fairy AT THE SAME TIME. To do this:
    • ink up the 2 images with Versafine Clair ink, Fallen Leaves.
    • Stamp down onto the front of the card base. PART of the fairy image WILL NOT STAMP.
    • Now, pop-off the Ginko-Leaf paper, DO NOT RE-INK THE IMAGES!!
    • Stamp down again in the EXACT SAME SPOT on the card. The ink that did not transfer the first time will now transfer all the way.
  • Now, apply Detail Clear Embossing Powder to the entire card front (and that piece of Ginko Leaf paper with a part of the fairy image stamped on it!) and heat-set all the images.
  • Use double-sided tape to fully adhere the Ginko-Leaf paper the the card front, on the left side.
  • Use 3 colors of Tombow Markers (Wendy chose soft blue, green, and purple ones with similar colors to the Ginko Leaves) and colored onto an old CD (you can color onto a piece of plastic... it just needs to be a non-porous surface). Wendy used Waterbrushes to watercolor with the ink from the Tombow Markers .
  • Finally, Wendy chose the Midas Touch Shimmer Pen, from Nuvo, to apply a coat of shimmer to the wings of the fairy and the "ground" we created with the Waterbrush and Tombow markers
This is SUCH A FUN CARD!!! I love how magical and whimsical it is!!
Picture
The next card that Wendy designed was inspired from this very sweet, mini stamp set from Altenew, Vintage Rose Add-on stamp.

This stamp comes with a nice sentiment too that pairs nicely with the leaf image
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out with an ivory card base. On the front of the card, at the bottom, adhere a piece of green dotted paper (Wendy chose a double-dot paper from BoBunny)
  • Next, use your home die-cut machine and the Hero Arts Infinity Circle dies to cut out a large circle out of a piece of Dark Green card stock.
  • Then, cut a slightly smaller circle out of lighter green piece of card stock.
  • Finally, cut out a slightly smaller circle out of ivory card stock (this one will layer with the other 2 green circles you just cut out). In the middle of the large ivory circle, cut out a small circle.
  • On your ivory circle, you will stamp the leaf image all around it. Wendy chose this leaf stamp because it is a "multi-step stamping" stamp. This means that when you stamp the 2 images with 2 shades of green ink, the image looks watercolored! Wendy stamped the BOLDER  leaf image with Distress Ink, Peeled paint and the FINE LINE leaf image with Distress Oxide, Peeled Paint. **Yes, this is the same color but one is DYE-BASED INK and one is OXIDE INK. The colors look monochromatic when you stamp them on top of each other **
  • Now, layer and paste the 3 larger circles together. The largest circle (dark green) will be at the very back, then the light green, then the ivory circle (this one has the middle cut out and leaves stamped all over it).
  • Place a piece of green-striped ribbon down on the front of your card base, on the top edge of the dotted green paper.
  • Now adhere your green/ivory circle stack onto the front of your card.
  • Now on the tiny white circle you cut out from earlier, stamp the sentiment, Thank You. Wendy stamped the sentiment with Distress Ink, Peeled Paint. She also used the ink pad to rub along the edges of the tiny ivory circle.. this technique is called "inking"
  • Use a pop-dot to adhere the tiny circle on the very front of the card in the middle of the ivory circle from earlier.
Picture
The last card that Wendy created was inspired from this Texture Stamp set from Creative Expressions, Background Slices as well as this stamp from Lavinia, Zen Leaf 2 and this sentiment from Impression Obsession, Smile
Picture
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start off by  using piece of 110# Solar White card stock to create a collage.
  • On your Silicone Craft Mat, smoosh 4 colors of Distress Ink down. Wendy chose the Distress Ink colors: Festive Berries, Spiced Marmalade, Vintage Photo, and Rusty Hinge. Spritz the "smooshed" ink with water and do a mono-print onto your heavy weight card stock. Heat-set the card stock with a heat-gun.
  • Next, spritz the same piece of card stock with Dylusions Spray Ink, Pomegranate Seed, and coat the paper so there are no white chunks of color on the page. Heat-set the card stock AGAIN using a heat-gun.
  • Now, stamp the Background Slices stamps across the page using Versafine Clair ink, Chianti. Also stamp the Zen Leaf 2 on the card stock page using the same color of ink, Versafine Clair Chianti.
  • Now that you have created a cool-looking collage, cut your card stock page down to size to mount on the front of a card base. Wendy backed the collage with a piece of black card stock THEN mounted it onto the front of her card.
  • Now, stamp the sentiment, "You Make me Smile" on a small piece of white card stock using Versafine Clair Ink, Nocturne. Wendy also mounted this on a small piece of black card stock to add contrast.
  • Cut small pieces of  your collage art to add interest to the card! You can be as creative as you'd like!!

My FAVORITE part about these cards is seeing how each person's creation is DIFFERENT!!

Just look how fun these cards are!!

One Sheet Wonder, 15 cards!

4/21/2019

Last week for Demo, Bekah showed us SO MANY wonderful ideas for making cards!! The theme was "one sheet wonder" which is a technique used by card makers where you buy only one sheet of  12" x 12" decorative paper and cut it in a way where there is NO PAPER leftover! Using solid-colored card bases, Bekah created these 15 FANTASTIC cards that I just LOVE!!!

Bekah used ONE SHEET OF DECORATIVE PAPER from the BoBunny paper collection, Harmony
Picture
This is the template that she used!

Take note that she wrote the dimensions (in inches) on each of the pieces of paper so you can cut your OWN paper down to size to make these cards! Bekah also put a letter of the alphabet on each section to distinguish which ones go together on the same card

I am going to show you each of the cards she created and I'll organize the cards by the letter of the alphabet so you can easily find the piece that she used on the template.
