Bekah loves to use powerful female figures in her art... and she is SO TALENTED!!
Bekah always starts with an image she is inspired by..
Here, Bekah started with the cover of a book... She took a piece of tracing paper and traced over the portrait to create a stencil.. (you can also use a piece of vellum for tracing)
Then, Bekah took ANOTHER piece of tracing paper and made a positive and negative of each section so she could create her stencil.
Bekah used the THIN ACETATE for creating her stencil image of Malala. She laid down the acetate on her final drawing and used a ball point pen (or a sharpie) to transfer the final image.
Finally, she used an X-acto Knife to cut out the sections of acetate.
For this next image, Bekah found a great image of Helen Keller. For this design, she just made a sketch (instead of tracing) of Helen Keller. Then, just like before, she created positive and negative areas to create her stencil.
For this one, Bekah used the THICK ACETATE and used a Hot Knife to cut into it.
**The Hot Knife only works with the Thick Acetate.... the Thin Acetate has a higher melting point**
Next, Bekah wanted to create a fun Bear image... but wanted to use different colors for the ears, the mouth, and the eyes and nose.
To do this, Bekah drew with a Sharpie on the Thin Acetate and used an X-acto Knife to cut out the different masks.
- Bekah used 3 shades of Distress ink for the Rainbow Background. Then she removed the the mask for the ears
- Next, she laid down the face (eyes and mouth) and applied Black Soot Distress Ink
- Lastly, she laid down the circle for the mouth and used Vintage Photo Distress Ink to reveal the snout
Using MASKS is different than using a STENCIL only in that a mask covers some of the work you've already done so you can cover other areas with ink without messing up the other images.
LOOK HOW CUTE!!!!
