Tuesday with Wendy, July 2nd

7/20/2019

The cards that Wendy created for her card making class were SO WONDERFUL!!!

Check out how fun these cards  are!!
Picture
The first card that Wendy created was inspired from this beautiful background stamp from Taylored Expressions, Wildflower Background
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start by stamping out the Wildflower Background with Versafine Nocturne Ink and heat emboss it with Detail Clear embossing powder
  • To watercolor the flowers, start out by scribbling your Tombow Markers onto your silicone craft mat. Then use your Water Brushes to pick up color from the marker and watercolor your flowers.
  • Wrap a piece of  polka-dot ribbon around the front of your card and use some double-sided tape to adhere it to the backside of the white card stock.
  • Mount the white card stock (with the floral image) onto a piece of black card stock using double-sided tape. Then mount that onto a bright yellow card base.
This card is SO WONDERFUL and bright!!
Picture
I love some of these other cards that students created... look how the water coloring is different on each card... how fun are these?

The next card that Wendy created was inspired from the Whittle Owls from Poppy and the Birch Tree Border die-cut from Taylored Expressions
Picture
Picture
To make the  card:
  • Start out with a thick piece of beige card stock as your card base. Use one of your Large Picket Fence Blending Brushes to brush on 3 colors of Distress Ink: Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade, and Festive Berries making sure to apply your inks to the middle of the card base where a "moon" might be.
  • Next, use your home die-cut machine to cut out a circle from your piece of patterned-burlap paper. Lay the piece of burlap-patterned paper onto the front of the card base and when you do so, the circle should be the color of the ink that you laid down earlier... this is the "Moon" in an orange color palette.
  • Next, use your home-die cut machine to cut out the Birch Tree out of a piece of off-white card stock. Adhere the Birch Tree to the front of the card base on the left side of the "moon" you just created. *When you adhere the Birch Tree, glue down the LEFT TRUNK completely flat and apply a few pop dots behind the RIGHT TRUNK.
  • Finish off the card by cutting out 2 Whittle Owls, one from Kraft card stock and one from Ivory card stock. The Whittle Owl die-cut is 2 pieces, and Wendy mixed and matched the Whittle Owl die-cuts so the colors correspond nicely. Adhere the Owls down by using a pop dots behind each owl.
I love how adorable this card is!!
Picture
The last card that Wendy created was inspired from the Whittle Wooden Ovals, Whittle Rabbit, Whittle Birds, and this stamp from Impression Obsession, Happy
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out with a third-sheet of 12" x 12" card stock as your card base (so your card base measures 4" x 12"). Score your card stock at 2 1/4" and 4 3/4" so that when folded, it creates a tri-fold card
  • When your card is closed, on the LEFT PANEL use your Nesting Oval die-cuts and your home die-cut machine to cut out a small oval. On the RIGHT PANEL, use your Nesting Oval die-cuts to cut out a little larger oval.
  • Now cut out your Whittle Oval Wooden frames out of brown card stock. Use Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive to adhere the small wooden oval ON TOP of the small oval cut out and the large wooden oval ON TOP of the larger oval cut out. You will end up with the Whittle Wooden Ovals covering the oval cut-outs from earlier.
  • Using your home die-cut machine, cut out 2 Whittle Birds from light blue card stock and a Whittle Rabbit from white felt-weave card stock. Adhere one of the blue birds onto the small wooden oval and the other bird onto the larger wooden oval. When you close the card, you should be able to see through BOTH OVALS to the inside of the card. Adhere the Whittle Rabbit to the INSIDE of the card in the spot where the Ovals meet-up so when the tri-fold card is folded you can see the Whittle Rabbit peeking out from the inside of the card.
  • Finish off the card with a piece of brown polka-dot brown ribbon. The ribbon will wrap around the backside of the card to the front of the card. When the card is closed, adhere the ribbon to the LEFT PANEL and a little bit on the RIGHT PANEL so that when the card is closed you can tie it closed
I love how cute this card is!! The interactive element is so SWEET and fun!!!

Background Ideas with Stamps and Stencils

6/28/2019

Last week for Demo, Bekah was the demonstrator and she showed us some AMAZING and clever ideas for using stamps and stencils to create background designs.

Background designs are great for doing card making, collage art, or just for fun!!

Check out some of these great ideas!!
Picture
Creating background designs for card making is nice because you can use stencils AND stamps to create a themed-background.

Check out here where Bekah used this Knitting Stamp set from Hero Arts and this swirl stencil together... I love the collage-style background!! It works PERFECTLY with her focal point image on the front of the card!!
Picture
Picture
Picture
You can EASILY create this look!!
  • Start by laying down a stencil on your card stock. Then use your Large Picket Fence Blending Brushes to apply a soft layer of Distress Inks. Bekah brushed on Distress Inks Wilted Violet, Chipped Sapphire, and Blueprint Sketch.
  • Next, arrange some clear stamps on an acrylic block so they look good together. Then, using the SAME COLORS OF INK from the background design, stamp your image across your stenciled background (stamp with purple ink on the purple section of the background and stamp with blue ink on the blue part of the background). When Bekah did this, she liked to turn her stamp 90 degrees so she got a fun repeating design across the page.
  • When you are done stamping you will see the amazing design you have created!!

Picture

Picture
Look what a fun design this is!!!
Picture
You can also create a background using a word/sentiment set!
  • Bekah used this Whittle Sentiment word set from Poppy. She arranged several of the words on an acrylic block and stamped it on her piece of paper with Distress Ink, Pumice Stone
  • THEN she went back in with a leaf-patterned stencil and a Large Picket Fence Blending and brushed on a very soft layer of Peeled Paint Distress Ink
  • Bekah then TURNED the same stencil by 90 degrees and brushed on a soft layer of Pumice Stone Distress Ink.

Ok, Check out the AMAZING idea creating your VERY OWN TURNABOUT STAMP!!!!!
  • Cut out a piece of 6" x 6" paper
  • Use your Tim Holtz Platform. Lift up the platform and lay your 6" x 6" paper down ,
  • Arrange your clear stamps ON THE PIECE OF PAPER to fill a space that fills 1/4 of the 6" x 6" piece of paper (so just a 3 x 3 section of the paper), Just like the picture below:
Picture
  • Now press your Stamp Platform closed so it picks up the stamps. Ink the stamps and STAMP THE IMAGE. You should see it stamped down like the picture below:
Picture
  • Now, lift up the Stamp Platform and turn your paper by 90 degrees
  • Now, peel off a few of the stamps and lay them down MATCHING THEM UP with the stamped image you just stamped. Once you have laid down a few stamps, press the Stamp Platform down and PICK UP the stamps you just laid down.
Picture
Picture
  • Now, lift up the Stamp platform and turn your paper 90 degrees AGAIN. Again, peel off (from that original block of stamps) a few of the stamps and stick them down onto the stamped image. Press the Stamp Platform down and pick up the stamps you just laid down.
Picture
Picture
  • Lift up the Stamp Platform AGAIN and once again turn your paper 90 degrees. Peel off a few more of the images (from that original block of stamps!) and lay them down onto the stamped image. For the last time, lay down the Stamp Platform and pick up those stamps
Picture
Picture
  • You should now have stamps going across your Stamp Platform in a way that appears hap-hazard. And when you ink-up the image, and stamp it, you will get something like this the first time:
Picture
When you turn your PAPER 90 degrees, and ink-up the stamps with a DIFFERENT COLOR INK, you'll see that the images ALMOST overlap, but instead the images are snug-up against each other!
Picture
Just LOOK HOW STUNNING this is when the images are stamped 4 times with 4 different colors of ink!!!
Picture
Picture
With that concept, there are SO MANY WAYS to create a Turnabout Stamp!! **Keep in mind if you use several different brands of polymer stamps that they may have different thicknesses, so be aware of that!!*

If you want some more instruction on how to make your OWN TURNABOUT STAMP, stop by the store!! We would love to help!!

See you soon!

Check out these FUN cards from card making class this week!!

This is such a FANTASTIC set of cards!!
Picture
The first card that Wendy created was inspired from this Nesting Rounded Rectangle die-cut set and this Jungle Bold Prints background stamp from Hero Art
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out by stamping onto a piece of white card stock. Ink the stamp with your Versamark ink pad. Use a Stamp Platform to stamp the image
  • Apply Detail Gold Embossing Powder across the entire image and heat set it.
  • Then lay down your Rounded Nesting Rectangles on your die-cut machine (you don't need ALL the rectangles, you can use the photo below to see how to arrange the die-cuts on your die cut machine)
  • Cut into your piece of card stock that has the image stamped on it. You will end up with 3 Rounded Rectangles that fit one-inside-the-other
  • Now, take a piece of 8 1/2" x 11" dark purple card stock and cut it  in half  LENGTHWISE. Score the paper at 2 3/4" from the LEFT and 2 3/4" from the RIGHT. This will create a gate-fold card
  • Close the "gates" of the card and line up the largest Rounded Rectangle on top of the entire card. Adhere it on the LEFT GATE ONLY using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive
  • Now, get the 2nd largest Rounded Rectangle and line it up inside the larger Rounded Rectangle and adhere it on the RIGHT GATE ONLY
  • Finally, lay down the center Rounded Rectangle and lay it inside the Medium Rounded Rectangle and adhere it to the LEFT GATE ONLY
  • At this point, when you open and close the gate-fold the Nesting Rounded Rectangles should INTERLOCK
  • When you open up the gate fold, this is where you will place a piece of white card stock. BEFORE YOU ADHERE IT down, wrap the piece of white card stock with a piece of Gold Mesh Ribbon and use double sided tape to hold the ribbon in place. Then use double-sided tape to adhere the ribbon-wrapped card stock to the inside of the card.
  • To finish off the card, wrap the closed card with a piece of sheer purple ribbon
I LOVE the interactive element to this card!!! It is SO MUCH FUN!

The inside of the card is set-up perfectly for displaying a sentiment or for pasting-down a placard for writing a greeting
Picture
The next card that Wendy created was inspired from this AMAZING Nautical Whale stamp from Creative Expressions/ Pink Ink Designs
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out with stamping your Whale Image with Versafine Clair, Nocturne Ink onto a piece of Light Grey card stock. Stamp at the TOP of the grey card stock so there is plenty of space below the whale.
  • Cut a small piece of Black Wave handmade paper to fit on the front of the card. Use a pair of scissors to fussy-cut the waves so you can see the wave-shape
  • Line up the wave paper with the bottom of the card base so you can see where the whale image is covered up.  Use an X-acto Knife to cut the bottom part of the whale (where the wave covers up the whale) like the belly of the whale,  his fins, and his tail. Tuck the Black Wave Paper underneath the edge of the whale.
  • Wendy used a white card base, then layered a piece of black paper, and finally a piece of white paper to the front of the card base. Then, adhere the grey card stock with the whale onto the front of the card making sure to place a pop dot underneath each of the fins and the tail
I LOVE the look of this card!!! It is so stunning!! The Black Wave handmade paper looks so fantastic with this whale image!
Picture
The last card that Wendy designed was inspired by this Delightful Daisy die-cut from Poppy
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out by cutting the Delightful Daisy die cut out of white felt-weave card stock
  • Use your water brushes and a water color palette to paint the daisies
  • Wendy used a white card stock as your card base. She layered a piece of yellow polka-dot paper on the card base. Then, layered a smaller piece of dark brown card stock next and then laid a piece of ANOTHER yellow decorative paper on top of the brown card stock.
  • Then, take your painted daisy die-cut and adhere the stem down with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive and then use pop-dots behind the flowers and leaves to add dimension
  • Finally, use the Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive to adhere an Oval Gem onto the center of each flower to make them more fun!!
I love how bright and SUMMERY this card is!!!

Tuesday with Wendy, March 5th

3/9/2019

Check out the 3 wonderful cards from card making class last week!!

You can really tell Wendy is in the mood for creativity!!
Picture
The cards this week were really fun!!

The first card was created with a bit of Wendy Pizzazz!!! She was inspired by this new Washi Tape from Dylusions, these 2 colors of Dylusions Spray inks (Vibrant Turquoise and Funky Fuchsia), and this new stamp set from Seth Apter, Grunge Grids
Picture
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out with a half-sheet of a piece of white card stock. Stamp the Grunge Grids stamp with Versafine Clair Inks Warm Breeze, Nocturne, and Morning Mist over the outside of the card base (front of the card and the back side of the card)
  • Next, use a piece of pop-tone 100# card stock to apply a FEW SPRITZ' of ink of each color of the Spray Ink.
  • Now take a small piece of white card stock and apply 3 different widths of Washi Tape.. Wendy chose these funky ones!! **we used white card stock so you can clearly see the images on the Washi Tape since the Washi Tape is slightly transluscent**
  • Now cut a piece of black/white patterned paper to add interest. Wendy liked to cut hers into little squares and strips
  • Back the piece of paper with Spray Inks on it with a piece of black card stock and adhere it to the card base using double-sided tape
  • Also back the piece of paper with Washi Tape on it with a piece of black card stock and adhere that down using double-sided tape
  • Use Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive to paste down the black/white patterned paper strips

Look how fun these cards turned out!!
I think we can all agree... this is a very "Wendy Style" card... it is SO FUN!!
Picture

The next card that Wendy designed was a Shaker Card!! She was inspired by this Monsters Stamp from BoBunny
Picture
To make the card:
  • Stamp your Monster Stamp (with a circle for the tummy) on a piece of white card stock using Versafine Onyx Black ink.
  • Fold your card base in half. Use your Home Die-cut Machine and a circle die-cut to cut out the stomach of the monster image AND the front of your card base.
  • Next, cut a piece of chipboard ( 2" x 4") and cut out 2 holes that are slightly larger than the hole you just cut out of your card base. **You may need to use the die-cut machine here at the store to do this because most die-cut blades will not cut through chip board** . Once you have cut 2 holes in your piece of chipboard, cut the piece of chipboard in half. You should now have 2 small squares of chipboard with a hole in each one measuring about 1 1/2 inches.
  • On the front of the card, where you cut out your hole, adhere a piece of Acetate using double-sided tape.
  • Now place BOTH PIECES of chipboard down and adhere them to each other using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive. The holes of the chipboard should line up nicely with the hole in the card base
  • Now FILL YOUR SHAKER CARD!! Wendy used Blue Ombre Sequins from Hero Arts. Once you have filled it (NOT FULL) place a piece of Acetate on the front and adhere it with double-sided tape. This will hold your shaker bits.
  • Then, adhere your Monster in place!! Remember to line up the holes so the shaker card makes sense!
  • Wendy chose a piece of fun "cartoon" looking paper and cut out an oval using her Home Die-cut Machine and laid the cut-out on the front of her card base to finish off the front of the card.
  • Next, stamp 2 little Monster images on the INSIDE of the card... and if you can.. arrange one so he is peeking through the stomach!!
  • Now close your card and look in awe and have fun with such an ADORABLE card!!!
Picture

Check out this fun idea.... One of the students used her oval cut-out to make a secret flap for the inside of her card!! How fun!!

The last card that Wendy designed was MY FAVORITE!!! It is SO CUTE!!

Wendy was inspired by the new Lawn Fawn Mushroom Border and the Gentle Bunny from Memory Box
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out by using a light  green card base. Take a piece of floral-patterned paper and cut out an oval using your Home Die-cut Machine.
  • Use the Lawn Fawn Mushroom Border to cut out some mushrooms and grass for the front of the card.. Wendy used a mottled, flesh colored card stock for the mushroom base and a bright red card stock for the mushroom tops.
  • Arrange your mushrooms and grass in the oval cut-out for the front of the card. Use pop-dots to give dimension to your mushrooms.
  • Lastly, cut out the Gentle Bunny from white card stock. Use the skinny brush from the Small Picket Fence Blending Brush Set and apply a tiny bit of ink from the Distress Oxide Worn Lipstick ink pad to colorize the ears, tail, and nose of the bunny. Use a pop-dot to adhere the bunny to the front of the card
This card is SO CUTE!!!! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!!
