No-Line Watercolors

9/25/2018

Last week for Demo, Bekah was the demonstrator and she showed us all how to do No-Line Watercoloring... and the technique is pretty impressive!!
Picture
The key to No-Line Watercoloring is to stamp an image with a stamp ink that actually disappears when you use watercolors over it.. the best ink for this project is a light color of Distress Ink

As you can see, When Bekah began to watercolor, the lines from the stamp ink DISAPPEAR!!!
Picture
Picture
Check out this idea where Bekah stamped out the Fluffy Bird stamp from Impression Obsession and then used the Nuvo Aqua Shimmer Pen to watercolor the image... I LOVE IT!!
Picture
Here, Bekah stamped out this floral image and watercolored the entire image.. I LOVE IT!
Picture

Now this last idea is SO CUTE!!!

Bekah made a shadow box using a couple Lawn Fawn stamp sets, Winter Skies and Upon a Star..  LOOK HOW ADORABLE THIS IS!!!

Tuesday with Wendy, August 28th

9/1/2018

What a fun class this week!! These cards are all SO MUCH FUN and the students learned new techniques ... Check out these fantastic cards and fall in love!!
Picture
The first card Wendy designed was made using this stamp set from Darkroom Door, Grevilleas, this STUNNING Handmade Paper with this metallic flourish, and this Peace Script stamp from Impression Obsession.
Picture
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Use an metallic ivory card stock as your card base.
  • On the left side of the card, layer a piece of Handmade Metallic Flourish Paper on top of a piece of text weight Gold Leaf metallic paper, leaving a nice border of gold on 2 sides of the metallic flourish. Use double sided tape to adhere the papers together
  • Use Morning Mist Versafine Clair Ink to stamp out the Grevilleas stamp.. Wendy chose the image that looks like a pine sprig. She stamped the image so it partially stamped where the metallic flourish paper is so that it looks like it is coming out of the paper.  She stamped this image twice.
  • Wendy then stamped the Peace Script stamp, also in Morning Mist Versafine Clair ink.
  • Then, she applied Detail Gold embossing powder over the 3 stamped images and heat-set it.
  • To finish off the card, Wendy used a bit of fiberous gold twine and tied it around the edge of the card... I LOVE how the fiberous twine mimics the movement of the pine sprig stamp!!
This is such a BEAUTIFUL card for the holidays!!!!
Picture
The next card was ALSO inspired from the Darkroom Door, Grevilleas stamp set, as well as this Carabelle Studio stencil, Mask with Wires, and this Avery Elle stamp set, Grateful
Picture
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start with a piece of cardstock 4" x 5 1/2". Wendy chose a very soft, light colored brown paper
  • On the smooth side of the paper, stencil the image Mask with Wires
  • Use the Versafine Clair inks Charming Pink, Verdant, and Golden Meadow with the Nuvo Blending Sponges to apply inks over the stencil
  • Stamp the sentiment, Grateful, in Black Versafine Clair ink
  • Stamp the native plant sprig along the bottom edge of the card, also in Black Versafine Clair ink
  • Apply Detail Clear Embossing Powder across the entire piece of card stock and heat-set
  • Use a narrow piece of black card stock (1/8") on either side to frame out the image on the  front of a Speckletone Kraft card stock base
This card is SO FANTASTIC!! It is even more amazing in person!!! It also makes for a great Thanksgiving card!!
Picture
The last card is actually a Shadow Box Card!!! Wendy was inspired by this adorable House Mouse image, Acorn Cap from Stampendous, and the Avery Elle stamp set,  Grateful
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Your card base is going to be the base of the Shadow Box
  • Cut your card stock so it is 4" x 11" . Wendy used Astroparche card stock
  • Score your card stock at the following points: 1/2" , 1 3/4" , 5 3/4", and 7" (look at the score guide below)
Picture
  • Then, using double-sided tape, adhere a piece of decorative card stock on to the large panel in the middle of the card base. ONLY USE TAPE AROUND THE EDGE. The decorative card stock measures 4" x 4"
  • Use the Hero Arts Rounded Rectangle die-set to cut out a window through the decorative piece of paper you just put on. This will cut through the front of the shadow box as well.
  • The piece of decorative card stock that cut out from the die-cut can be taped down on the far side of the shadow box.
  • On the piece of Astroparche card stock that cut out from the die-cut, stamp the sentiment Thankful with the leaves and acorns in Versafine Clair Inks Chianti and Rain Forest. Watercolor the leaves and acorns using Tombow Markers and water brushes. Adhere this to the far side of the shadow box as well, just off-set from the Decorative Paper that is already there. Use Pop-dots to adhere the sentiment  down.
  • Stamp the House Mouse image, Acorn Cap, in Versafine Clair ink Pinecone, and emboss with Detail Crystal Embossing Powder. Watercolor the mice and acorns using Tombow Markers and water brushes. Fussy-cut the image
  • Next, cut a narrow piece of Astroparche paper. The strip should measure 1/2" x 5".
  • Score the strip at the 1/2" mark on both sides of the strip so you can put it in the shadow box.
  • Tape the Acorn Cap image onto the strip so it will sit upright in the shadow box. THEN tape the strip in place by  applying tape to the 1/2" tabs ONLY and adhere it inside the shadow box.
I LOVE this Fall Shadow Box!!!
Picture
And the best part about Shadow Boxes... They fit nicely into an envelope!!

Halloween Shadow Box

8/13/2018

Yes, it may only be August... but we are ALREADY thinking about Halloween!!!

For those of us who love to make cards... this is a fun idea that can be given as a gift, part of a Halloween gift basket, or made into a sweet card!!

Check out this fun idea!!
Picture
You will need:
  • 3 sheets of Decorative Halloween paper. We used the Bewitched line from Echo Park
  • 1 sheet of 8 1/2" x 11" metallic card stock
  • Paper Cutter
  • Score Board -for making creases for folding
  • Scissors
  • Glue and/or double-sided tape
  • Die-cut machine -for cutting hole in front of shadow box (or another way to cut out a hole in the front)
Picture
We started out by choosing 3 sheets of paper from the Echo Park halloween line, Bewitched as well as a sheet of metallic card stock
Picture
To make the Shadow Box
  • Cut the piece of metallic card stock in half lengthwise so your base piece measures 4 1/4" x 11"
  • Score the paper at 1 1/4", 5 1/4", 6 1/2", and 10 1/2"
  • Use a die-cut Hexagon (Studio Hexagon Layers from Open Studios) out of the front of your shadow box BEFORE you tape the box together.
  • Use double-sided tape or glue to tape the box together using the little 1/2" tab on the far right side of the shadow box base
  • Next, use the leftover metallic card stock to cut the shadow box layers
  • Cut out a total of 3 layers... they will measure:
    • 1/2" x 4 1/4"
    • 1" x 4 1/4"
    • 1 1/2" x 4 1/4"
  • Then, score each of the layers 1/8" on each side and fold the tabs up so they will slide into the shadow box base
  • Use PVA or Deluxe Adhesive to glue the layers in using the little 1/8" tabs
  • Adhere the tallest layer first, then the other 2 layers. When you set up the Shadow box you should see the gradation of the layers (see photos below). There should be space between each layer to allow for you to attach decorations
To Decorate the Shadow Box

Now the FUN PART!!!!!

You can make your Halloween Shadow Box as simple or complex as you'd like!!
  • Fussy-cut Halloween images out of your decorative papers using scissors
  • Use a piece of the starry night paper for the background (cut 4 1/4" by 4") and slide in the very back behind all the layers and attach using double-sided tape or glue
  • Start with the taping down the house in the background followed by the cauldron in the front.. but honestly, you can decorate however you'd like!!!
  • I cut out one of the little witches from the Echo Park Bewitched line and paired it with the saying "Welcome my Pretties" for the very front.
  • There are lots of other things you can cut out of this paper line.. like the butterflies, the flowers, and the clouds.. just have fun with it!!
  • I put a final sentiment "Trick or Treat" along the very bottom of the shadow box to finish it off.
Isn't this Halloween Shadow Box SO MUCH FUN!!!!?!?!?!
Picture
With some fun stickers, candies, and a little bit of Halloween Spooki-ness.. you can create fun little gift for your grandkids or just for a friend!!
Picture
Even better? It fits into a standard size A7 envelope

Shadow Box Cards, Demo

2/19/2018

We offer a FREE DEMO every Wednesday from Noon to 1pm! Each week we offer a different theme.

This last week we all learned about Shadow Box cards from Bekah!
Picture
A Shadow Box is just a dimensional rectangle or square that can be ANY size. You may have heard of Shadow Box Frames before.. same idea!

Shadow Boxes are great for creating dimension. Bekah showed us how to make a small Shadow Box Card and explained how they fold COMPLETELY FLAT to fit inside a standard envelope!!

These cards are SO CUTE!!
Picture
This little one was created using the Lawn Fawn set, Lovable Legends.. and it has Big Foot!!

I love how she used the rest of the stamps from the set to add even more sayings and embellishments along the edge..
Picture
Picture
This next card uses 3 die-cuts from Memory Box, Deer Family Circle, Stitched Circle Cabin, and Stitched Circle Trees

These die-cuts are meant to layer together and they are SO PERFECT together in this Shadow Box card!!
Picture
It is VERY EASY to make a Shadow Box card.. as long as your base is "Box Shaped" the little in-between papers just tuck right in with a tab on either side to attach them to the base!
Picture
The Shadow Box cards can be any size you'd like!!

You can use patterned paper, die-cuts, or invent your own Shadow Box!!
Picture
Picture
If you would like some help creating a Shadow Box Card, come in and we can help you!! We have LOTS of paper and die-cuts to help inspire you.. the possibilities are endless!!

See you soon!!
