Tuesday with Wendy, July 2nd

7/20/2019

The cards that Wendy created for her card making class were SO WONDERFUL!!!

Check out how fun these cards  are!!
Picture
The first card that Wendy created was inspired from this beautiful background stamp from Taylored Expressions, Wildflower Background
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start by stamping out the Wildflower Background with Versafine Nocturne Ink and heat emboss it with Detail Clear embossing powder
  • To watercolor the flowers, start out by scribbling your Tombow Markers onto your silicone craft mat. Then use your Water Brushes to pick up color from the marker and watercolor your flowers.
  • Wrap a piece of  polka-dot ribbon around the front of your card and use some double-sided tape to adhere it to the backside of the white card stock.
  • Mount the white card stock (with the floral image) onto a piece of black card stock using double-sided tape. Then mount that onto a bright yellow card base.
This card is SO WONDERFUL and bright!!
Picture
I love some of these other cards that students created... look how the water coloring is different on each card... how fun are these?

The next card that Wendy created was inspired from the Whittle Owls from Poppy and the Birch Tree Border die-cut from Taylored Expressions
Picture
Picture
To make the  card:
  • Start out with a thick piece of beige card stock as your card base. Use one of your Large Picket Fence Blending Brushes to brush on 3 colors of Distress Ink: Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade, and Festive Berries making sure to apply your inks to the middle of the card base where a "moon" might be.
  • Next, use your home die-cut machine to cut out a circle from your piece of patterned-burlap paper. Lay the piece of burlap-patterned paper onto the front of the card base and when you do so, the circle should be the color of the ink that you laid down earlier... this is the "Moon" in an orange color palette.
  • Next, use your home-die cut machine to cut out the Birch Tree out of a piece of off-white card stock. Adhere the Birch Tree to the front of the card base on the left side of the "moon" you just created. *When you adhere the Birch Tree, glue down the LEFT TRUNK completely flat and apply a few pop dots behind the RIGHT TRUNK.
  • Finish off the card by cutting out 2 Whittle Owls, one from Kraft card stock and one from Ivory card stock. The Whittle Owl die-cut is 2 pieces, and Wendy mixed and matched the Whittle Owl die-cuts so the colors correspond nicely. Adhere the Owls down by using a pop dots behind each owl.
I love how adorable this card is!!
Picture
The last card that Wendy created was inspired from the Whittle Wooden Ovals, Whittle Rabbit, Whittle Birds, and this stamp from Impression Obsession, Happy
Picture
Picture
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out with a third-sheet of 12" x 12" card stock as your card base (so your card base measures 4" x 12"). Score your card stock at 2 1/4" and 4 3/4" so that when folded, it creates a tri-fold card
  • When your card is closed, on the LEFT PANEL use your Nesting Oval die-cuts and your home die-cut machine to cut out a small oval. On the RIGHT PANEL, use your Nesting Oval die-cuts to cut out a little larger oval.
  • Now cut out your Whittle Oval Wooden frames out of brown card stock. Use Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive to adhere the small wooden oval ON TOP of the small oval cut out and the large wooden oval ON TOP of the larger oval cut out. You will end up with the Whittle Wooden Ovals covering the oval cut-outs from earlier.
  • Using your home die-cut machine, cut out 2 Whittle Birds from light blue card stock and a Whittle Rabbit from white felt-weave card stock. Adhere one of the blue birds onto the small wooden oval and the other bird onto the larger wooden oval. When you close the card, you should be able to see through BOTH OVALS to the inside of the card. Adhere the Whittle Rabbit to the INSIDE of the card in the spot where the Ovals meet-up so when the tri-fold card is folded you can see the Whittle Rabbit peeking out from the inside of the card.
  • Finish off the card with a piece of brown polka-dot brown ribbon. The ribbon will wrap around the backside of the card to the front of the card. When the card is closed, adhere the ribbon to the LEFT PANEL and a little bit on the RIGHT PANEL so that when the card is closed you can tie it closed
I love how cute this card is!! The interactive element is so SWEET and fun!!!

3/22/2019

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the cards from this week's card making class!!! THEY ARE ALL SO BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

Perfect cards for Spring Time!!
Picture
The first card that Wendy created was made using this BRAND NEW stamp set from Creative Expressions, Pink Ink Designs called Dragonfly Wings Series. Wendy also used paper from this new paper collection from BoBunny, Harmony
Picture
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out with a half-sheet of light yellow card stock, score your paper in the middle and fold the card in half.
  • Next, open the card flat and stamp your Dragonfly Body image on the INSIDE OF THE CARD on the right side using Versafine Clair Ink, Medieval Blue. Use Crystal Embossing Powder and heat-set it. Then place a piece of decorative paper on the INSIDE OF THE CARD on the left side.
  • Now, with the card open, score your paper AGAIN this time coming from the right side of the card, score it it at 2 1/8" making sure NOT TO SCORE over the dragonfly body!
  • Use an X-acto Knife to cut out the Dragonfly Body on the LEFT SIDE OF THE SCORE LINE ONLY. Once you have trimmed the body of the dragonfly, you can fold the flap of the right side of the dragonfly body so it creates a tri-fold card.
  • Next, stamp the Dragonfly Wings on a piece of thick vellum using the Hero Arts Unicorn White Ink pad and use White Diamond Embossing Powder. Then heat-set your image. Also stamp little dragonflies on the decorative paper we placed on the left side of the card
  • Fussy-cut the 2 sets of Dragonfly Wings. We suggest you keep the top and bottom  wings connected so you can easily adhere them in place with a little bit of Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive. Make sure to just adhere the wings at the Dragonfly Body base and leave the rest of the Wings free-floating
  • Then, use 2 of your Hero Arts Nesting Oval dies to die-cut a thin oval out of light pink card stock. Use Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive to adhere the oval on the decorative paper.. it's ok if you cover up your little dragonflies just slightly.
  • When you  close the tri-fold card, your Dragonfly should look like it is resting in the middle of the thin pink oval.. kind of giving the impression of a dragonfly landing on a lake!!
This card is so delicate and STUNNING in design and beauty... we all LOVE this card so much!!
Picture
The next card that Wendy designed was inspired from the ALL NEW Lavinia Stamps, Seeing is Believing and the Zen Rose
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start with a piece of white card stock and use the Versafine ink, Onyx. Wendy used this ink to stamp the fairy image in the middle of her card stock THEN went back in with the Zen Rose stamp and stamped around the fairy image
  • Then, Wendy sprinkled on Embossing Powder. She put Crystal Embossing Powder on the fairy (then shook off the excess) and then covered the rest of the image with Detail Clear Embossing Powder. Then she heat-set the entire image.
  • Wendy used a coral-colored piece of card stock as her card base. She used the Hero-Arts nesting Rectangles to cut out an oval in a piece of pink card stock
  • Adhere the stamped fairy image/zen roses to the coral-colored card base and finish off the card by adhering the oval cut-out on top of the image.
I LOVE THIS CARD!!!!

It is *so magical* and brings me so much joy!!
Picture
The last card that Wendy designed was inspired from this die-cut from Creative Expressions, Happy Birthday Edger
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start with die-cutting the Happy Birthday Edger paper out of  white felt-weave card stock
  • Use the Picket Fence Blending Brushes and 3 colors of Distress Ink: Seedless Preserves, Shabby Shutters, and Peeled Paint to create a beautiful ombre color on the Happy Birthday die-cut.
  • Now use the Aqua Shimmer Pen to color across the entire die-cut so the colors of ink now look *iridescent* and magical
  • Use a card base that is a darker shade of purple. Wendy used a small strip of paper from the Graphic 45 Bloom Collection above and below the sentiment.
  • Use pop-dots to add dimension to a few of the letters of the Happy Birthday die-cut... this adds interest and makes it MORE FUN!!
This card is WONDERFUL and is so fun and brilliant... and looks dramatic and exciting (even though it's an easy card to create!!)

Translucent Papers, Ideas and More!

2/9/2019

Here at the store we carry several different kinds of paper.. and some of our favorite are the Translucent ones

Check out some of these fun ideas!!
Picture
When using Translucent Papers, you can really get creative with some of the techniques!! Because the Papers are so thin, however, you need to be careful which papers you use to get certain effects.

Let's start with Embossing Folders!

When you run Vellum in an Embossing Folder, it tends to "crack" .. in order to prevent this from happening, we recommend using a "carrier" of a piece of card stock AT THE SAME TIME so the Embossing Folder embosses both the vellum AND the card stock.
Picture
Picture
Picture
We wanted to know if you could emboss OTHER Translucent Papers..

But we found out you CANNOT emboss Matte Dura-Lar... it just DOESN'T hold texture!!!
Picture
Next we tried Embossing the Handmade Mulberry Paper (Wendy chose the SUPER THIN Mulberry Paper with No Inclusions). As you can see, the paper has a SUPER LIGHT embossed texture... neat for an overlay!!
Picture
Wendy played around with stamping on the SUPER THIN Mulberry Paper.. Here she used Staz-On Black ink
Picture
Wendy tore some of the images from the Mulberry Paper and then used Crystal Lacquer to adhere them to a painted white Wooden Canvas. When she did that, the MULBERRY PAPER DISAPPEARED and the image stayed vibrant!!!
Picture
Wendy also stamped some fun natural images in Archival Ink on the Thin Mulberry Paper so that when she does collage with the papers later the inks WON'T BLEED out... Archival Ink is permanent when dry!
Picture
You can stamp and Heat Emboss on 3 of these WONDERFUL translucent papers!!
  • Thick Vellum
  • Dura-Lar Wet Media Film
  • Dura-Lar Matte Film
Picture
Vellum has quite a bit of Tooth to it... so it has a rougher-feeling than the Dura-Lar. When you stamp and Heat-Emboss it will WANT TO CURL so make sure your Heat-Gun is nice and hot before you heat-emboss!
Picture
Picture
The Dura-Lar Wet Media Film LOOKS like Acetate but YOU CAN EMBOSS ON IT!!! You can also use dye-based markers on the Wet Media Film!! It also holds embossing beautifully.. just make sure to USE AN EMBOSSING PREP PAD before you emboss otherwise the Embossing Powder will stick everywhere!!
Picture
Picture
One of our FAVORITE PAPERS to use for Heat Embossing is the Matte Dura-Lar .. the Matte Dura-Lar is SO SMOOTH and it embosses WONDERFULLY!!
Picture
Picture
You can combine Dura-Lar Matte and Wet Media Film to do Multi-Step Stamping as well!!
Picture
I love the look of the Dura-Lar Wet Media Film here... we stamped and Heat-Embossed the Wings and used Tombow Markers to color the wings
Picture
Here, we did a combination of Dura-Lar Matte and Wet Media Film... the effect is wonderful!!

Gluing down just the middle of the Dragonfly and popping up the wings really makes the image come to life!
Picture
I LOVE this overlay art piece Wendy created!!!
  • First, Wendy used her Alocohol Inks to colorize the Translucent Papers like Stained Glass!!
  • Wendy stamped the new Nature Walk image stamps from Darkroom Door onto the Wet Media Film Dura-Lar using Black Staz-On ink
  • Then, Wendy used the Black Glaze Pen to add doodles and swirls to the papers
  • Next, Wendy cut out the new Hero Arts Butterfly Die-Cut out of black card stock and pasted it down.. it looks like stained glass when you look at the pieces through the light!

Wendy then created a Tri-Fold out of card stock and then sandwiched the pieces of Vellum, Matte Dura-Lar, and Wet Media Dura-Lar between another card stock Tri-Fold.

When the light passes through it you can REALLY see the colors!!

Picture
When the Tri-Fold is closed, you get this really cool card with overlays...
Picture
Picture
But when you open it up.. The colors COME TO LIFE!!!!

I am always so impressed with what you can create with the products we carry here at the store!!

Stop by to see us to get inspired! We would love to see you!

8/10/2018

What a FUN WEEK!!!

As Wendy was showing the new cards to us last week, I was IN LOVE with each one! I could not pick a favorite... and I have a feeling you might feel the same!! Check out how great these cards are!!
Picture

The first card that Wendy designed was made using 3 different stamps... Simply Stamped Moon by Taylored Expressions, and Pine Row and Tall Grass by Stampscapes.
Picture
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Use a piece of 12" x 5 1/2" piece of white card stock as your card base
  • Score the piece of white card stock at 4" and 8" so you make a tri-fold card
  • Attach a piece of Marbled Handmade Paper to the middle panel on the outside of your card base
  • Fold the first tri-fold over *DO NOT ADHERE YET* and use a die-cut circle to cut a circle out of the front panel. It will cut through both layers of the card front and the handmade paper.
  • Stamp "I love you to the Moon and Back" on the Vellum and emboss with Detail Gold Embossing Powder.
  • Use double-sided tape to adhere the Vellum in between the 2 open circles you just created on the card base
  • Take the white circle that you cut out and use Nuvo Blending Sponges to apply Rusty Hinge Distress Ink... this makes the moon look orange like a Harvest Moon
  • Now for the Multi-Step Stamping: there are 3 moon Images in the Taylored Expressions set... A solid moon, a slightly solid moon, and an open image moon..
  • Stamp the slightly solid moon in Versafine Clair Morning Mist and stamp the open image moon in Versafine Clair Nocturne.
  • Tape the moon image in place so that in lines up with the Vellum moon on the front of the card
  • Now stamp the Pine Row trees below the Harvest Moon
  • Stamp the Tall Grass in Versafine Clair Morning Mist ink
  • Finish off the card with a yard of black twine and wrap it around the front and tie it tight with a little bow
Isn't this such a GREAT card?!!? I love how the Marbled Handmade Paper looks like the surface of the moon... we just LOVE this card!!!!
Picture
The next card in the series is made using this Taylored Expressions Stencil, Mosaic Leaves and this Altenew Stamp set Cherished Memories
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Your card base is a half a piece of green paper
  • Use the Mosaic Leaves stencil to make a design on the card on one side. Use Versafine Clair inks  and Nuvo Blending Sponges to apply the ink. We used Versafine Clair ink colors Verdant, Purple Delight, and Monarch
  • Score the card base at 2" and 6"
  • Stamp out the flower images using Monarch Versafine Clair ink onto light purple card stock
  • Stamp out the leaf images using Rain Forest Versafine Clair ink onto light green card stock
  • Fussy-cut the flowers and leaves and pop them up on the smaller of the 2 gates of the gate-fold-card using mounting tape for the leaves and pop-dots for the flowers
  • Use a piece of purple ribbon to wrap around the backside of the card to complete it!
What a beautiful card! We love how the leaf shape from the Altenew stamp matches the leaf stencil from Taylored Expressions *SO PERFECTLY*!!

And, this color palette is just stunning...
Picture
This next card was made using this new stamp set from Kaisercraft, Full Bloom and the new Wet Media Dura-Lar
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Cut a piece of the Wet Media Film Dura-Lar to fit on the front of your card base.
  • Use the Tim Holtz Stamp Platform and stamp the Full Blooms image from with Versamark Ink and heat emboss with Detail White Embossing Powder
  • Then, press 2 colors of Distress Ink down on your Blue Silicone Craft mat so the ink is sitting on the mat (Wendy used Dried Marigold and Festive Berries)
  • Next, spritz the ink with water to activate the colors
  • Then, tap out some particles of Color Burst on top of the activated ink and spritz with water again.  (Wendy used Violet, Merlot, Orange, and Lemon Yellow Color Burst)
  • Press the piece of Wet Media Film Dura-Lar onto the Blue Silicone Craft mat so the backside of the media film is being colorized (NOT the same side as the heat embossed Full Blooms image). This will transfer the beautiful colors of the Distress Ink and Color Burst onto the Wet Media Film.
  • Use 2 brads to attach the Wet Media Film onto a piece of white card stock and a piece of burgundy card stock
  • Wrap about a yard of burgundy twine around the front of the card and tie it tight
  • Attach the Full Blooms image (attached to the white and burgundy card stock) using double-sided tape down onto the card base, covering up the knot from the burgundy twine.
What a STUNNING card!!!!!

This effect is so much more beautiful.. stop by the store to see it in person!!

Tri-Fold Invitation Tutorial

6/23/2017

Just about a week ago, a gal came into the store to get some ideas on making handmade invitations for her wedding.

As I looked at her ideas, I realized that we could create something here at the store, using a few tools and papers, that had  the same effect she was going for!!

Check it out!!
Picture
The first thing I did, I found a color palette I liked. This new Sherlock Holmes paper from Graphic 45 has a great color-combo that I just LOVED. I used the filigree paper from this line.. and the backside of it is even beautiful too!!
Picture
Next, I printed off the information. I just found a cute border online and typed up a cute invite on my Word document. I used the White Astroparche text paper which is not only the perfect color for a tone-on-tone look, but the light texture is very elegant.

Then, I did some stamping.  I used one of these new Alphabet Stamp sets new from Concord & 9th. The CAPS set is *perfect* for making monograms!! I used the Olympic Green ink pad from Versafine to get the color.. which matched beautifully.

The font on my invite matched up nicely with the flourish of the stamp set... great combo!!
Once I made my monogram, I started working on the base of my invite. Since I want to do a Tri-fold style, I started out by cutting my paper.

I took 1 sheet of cardstock paper, cut down to 11" x 5 1/2"
Picture
Using a We R Envelope Punch Board, line up the narrow side of the paper against the notch of the board so it lines up with the 2 3/4" mark. Punch a notch in your paper. Then score it using the tool provided. The tool will glide smoothly down the diagonal groove on the board, creating the crease.

Flip the paper over so that you can create a second diagonal score line on the other side of the paper. Below is a sample of the steps:
Using a paper cutter, cut off the flaps so you are left with a sheet of paper 11" x 5 1/2" with a triangle on one side.
Next, using a Score Board, line up the flat edge of your card up to the left side and score at 4" and 8"
Picture
Just like that... a Tri-fold card!!

I used this inking  tool by Tim Holtz to create this distressed edge.. it makes it look not-so-stark on the card and adds a bit of interest.
To make it more exciting, I layered my invitation on Jelly Bean Green paper made by Poptone, Natural  color cardstock by Astroparche, and more of the filigree paper from Graphic 45.

I added a couple other ideas for the inside .. this is where you might put directions, lodging info, or your RSVP postcard.
Picture
I also added in a *touch* of glitter tape.. this Olive Green and wide Black glitter tapes are both made by Best Creations
Picture
To finish it off, I made the belly-band to display the monogram!!

I used the black glitter tape on piece of text weight paper.. this made it so I can wrap the tape as a belly-band without the backside being so sticky.
Then I scored the backside of the glitter-tape-paper-strip that I just made.

I scored it at 1/4" , 4 1/4" and at 8 3/8"
Picture
Then, I used The Ultimate Glue to glue the glitter paper into a belly-band
I glued my monogram right on top of the band.. right on top of the crease.. which is a clever way to hide that!!
Picture
The belly-band will fit nice and snug over the outside of your invite!!
The invite then slides beautifully into the matching Jelly Bean Green envelopes!!
From here, added embellishments are up to you!!

Address your envelopes using a nice Uni-ball pen like a white or a gold! You can add a wax seal to add extra elegance and with a vintage feel..
Picture
To tie your event together, use the same paper to make place cards, cute food-allergy cards, or other added decoration like a banner or table centerpieces!!
Come by to see us to get help designing your own invitations!! We have a book of ideas.. and whether you need a graduation card, a birthday invite, Wedding invitations, or Anniversary cards... we are HERE TO HELP and we are open 7 days a week!!!
