Tuesday with Wendy, June 18th

6/21/2019

Check out these FUN cards from card making class this week!!

This is such a FANTASTIC set of cards!!
Picture
The first card that Wendy created was inspired from this Nesting Rounded Rectangle die-cut set and this Jungle Bold Prints background stamp from Hero Art
Picture
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out by stamping onto a piece of white card stock. Ink the stamp with your Versamark ink pad. Use a Stamp Platform to stamp the image
  • Apply Detail Gold Embossing Powder across the entire image and heat set it.
  • Then lay down your Rounded Nesting Rectangles on your die-cut machine (you don't need ALL the rectangles, you can use the photo below to see how to arrange the die-cuts on your die cut machine)
  • Cut into your piece of card stock that has the image stamped on it. You will end up with 3 Rounded Rectangles that fit one-inside-the-other
  • Now, take a piece of 8 1/2" x 11" dark purple card stock and cut it  in half  LENGTHWISE. Score the paper at 2 3/4" from the LEFT and 2 3/4" from the RIGHT. This will create a gate-fold card
  • Close the "gates" of the card and line up the largest Rounded Rectangle on top of the entire card. Adhere it on the LEFT GATE ONLY using Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive
  • Now, get the 2nd largest Rounded Rectangle and line it up inside the larger Rounded Rectangle and adhere it on the RIGHT GATE ONLY
  • Finally, lay down the center Rounded Rectangle and lay it inside the Medium Rounded Rectangle and adhere it to the LEFT GATE ONLY
  • At this point, when you open and close the gate-fold the Nesting Rounded Rectangles should INTERLOCK
  • When you open up the gate fold, this is where you will place a piece of white card stock. BEFORE YOU ADHERE IT down, wrap the piece of white card stock with a piece of Gold Mesh Ribbon and use double sided tape to hold the ribbon in place. Then use double-sided tape to adhere the ribbon-wrapped card stock to the inside of the card.
  • To finish off the card, wrap the closed card with a piece of sheer purple ribbon
I LOVE the interactive element to this card!!! It is SO MUCH FUN!

The inside of the card is set-up perfectly for displaying a sentiment or for pasting-down a placard for writing a greeting

The next card that Wendy created was inspired from this AMAZING Nautical Whale stamp from Creative Expressions/ Pink Ink Designs
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out with stamping your Whale Image with Versafine Clair, Nocturne Ink onto a piece of Light Grey card stock. Stamp at the TOP of the grey card stock so there is plenty of space below the whale.
  • Cut a small piece of Black Wave handmade paper to fit on the front of the card. Use a pair of scissors to fussy-cut the waves so you can see the wave-shape
  • Line up the wave paper with the bottom of the card base so you can see where the whale image is covered up.  Use an X-acto Knife to cut the bottom part of the whale (where the wave covers up the whale) like the belly of the whale,  his fins, and his tail. Tuck the Black Wave Paper underneath the edge of the whale.
  • Wendy used a white card base, then layered a piece of black paper, and finally a piece of white paper to the front of the card base. Then, adhere the grey card stock with the whale onto the front of the card making sure to place a pop dot underneath each of the fins and the tail
I LOVE the look of this card!!! It is so stunning!! The Black Wave handmade paper looks so fantastic with this whale image!
Picture
The last card that Wendy designed was inspired by this Delightful Daisy die-cut from Poppy
Picture
To make the card:
  • Start out by cutting the Delightful Daisy die cut out of white felt-weave card stock
  • Use your water brushes and a water color palette to paint the daisies
  • Wendy used a white card stock as your card base. She layered a piece of yellow polka-dot paper on the card base. Then, layered a smaller piece of dark brown card stock next and then laid a piece of ANOTHER yellow decorative paper on top of the brown card stock.
  • Then, take your painted daisy die-cut and adhere the stem down with Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive and then use pop-dots behind the flowers and leaves to add dimension
  • Finally, use the Nuvo Deluxe Adhesive to adhere an Oval Gem onto the center of each flower to make them more fun!!
I love how bright and SUMMERY this card is!!!

Aqua Shimmer Pen, Painting Ideas

5/31/2019

What is the Aqua Shimmer Pen?!?

Aqua Shimmer Pens are made by Tonic/Nuvo. They are shimmery brush pens with a VERY FINE iridescent glitter that runs through it. The glitter is SO FINE in the pen it is hardly seen... but as you catch the light you can REALLY SEE the shimmer come to life!!!

We carry the Aqua Shimmer Pens in 2 colors... Glitter Gloss (which lands more "silver" in color) and Midas Touch (which has a more "gold" tint to it)
Picture
Picture
For Demo this week, we talked about painting with the Aqua Shimmer Pens!!

Check out these fun ideas!!!
Picture
One of the EASIEST ways to paint with the Aqua Shimmer Pen is to use Color Burst!!

In an empty watercolor palette, add in a few particles of Color Burst. I decided to use these warm tones for coloring my flowers!!

Because the Aqua Shimmer Pens are wet on the tip, you can easily pick up the Color Burst Powder and start watercoloring!!
Picture
Picture
When I watercolor with the Aqua Shimmer Pens, I always start where in the "shadow" might be... in the corners or edges of the flowers...

To do a color-wash, I squeeze out the shimmer from the pen into the palette so it thins the Color Burst. Then I take my Aqua Shimmer Pen and paint with the diluted color to fill in larger areas!
Picture
Picture
I LOVE this card!! This stamp set, Everlasting Happiness is from Altenew and the images are just STUNNING when watercolored with the vibrant Color Burst!!
Picture
Picture
I also LOVED the idea of watercoloring with the Distress Oxide Spray Inks!! To do this, just spritz some color into your blank watercolor palette.. Then use your Aqua Shimmer Pen to watercolor like usual!!
Picture
Picture
Just look how VIBRANT these colors are!!

I like to stamp and heat-emboss my images with the Ivory Embossing Powder from Stampendous.. When you watercolor over the white embossing the images COME TO LIFE!! When I was done watercoloring my image, I still had some ink on the tip of my brush and I flicked the brush over the paper and added a SHIMMERY SPLATTER across the entire page!!
Picture
Picture
I used an X-acto knife to cut out the middle of the card so I could add in my own sentiment!!
Picture
One of my favorite ways to watercolor with the Aqua Shimmer Pen is to color DIRECTLY from the watercolor palette.. HOWEVER if you do this keep in mind that your water colors will be SHIMMERY FOREVER!! (I have dedicated one of my watercolor palettes to be a "shimmery" one because I love this effect so much!)
Picture
I always pick up the color and then start with the underside of the image so the darkest colors are the shadowed areas!

When I was all done painting the strawberries I squeezed out some shimmer so I could do a color-wash on the background.

Just LOOK HOW SHIMMERY the paper is!!!
Picture
Picture
This Three Strawberry stamp from Impression Obsession is PERFECT for Summertime!!!
Picture
Did you know you can also watercolor with the Distress Oxide Inks?!?!
Picture
To do this, just smoosh the inks onto a piece of Acetate (or a craft mat) and then watercolor as usual!!

You can always squeeze out some of the shimmer to thin the inks to get dark and light tones

I love this Vulture stamp colored with Distress Oxide inks Wild Honey and Faded Jeans
Picture
Picture
I LOVE Distress Oxide Inks because they are SO VIBRANT on the white card stock!!
Picture
Picture
This swan stamp is such a beautiful image!!!

I like to do the mirror/reflection stamping technique for creating the 2 swans looking at each other... you can view that technique by viewing one of our past blogs!! https://www.stampadoodle.com/stampadoodle-blog/reflections
Picture
Now for using Distress Inks (yes, the standard ones!!)

Did you know that if you stamp with Distress Inks onto Kromekote Paper that the image becomes resistant to water?!?! The reason is because the surface is "permeable" meaning the image falls BELOW the glossy finish.

This is great because you can stamp an image.. LET IT DRY... then smoosh inks onto Acetate (or a craft mat) and watercolor the image you just stamped. What happens is the ink you stamped in IS PERMANENT and won't move!!

So you can stamp and watercolor with the SAME INK.

I also love watercoloring with Tombow Markers.... this is my personal favorite way for watercoloring!!!

Color onto a piece of Acetate (or a craft mat) and spritz a little bit of water. Then, watercolor like usual!!

I always start my watercolors where the shadows might be (for example, the underside of the swan) and that is where the ink will be darkest.

Once again, I did a color-wash here with the Tombow Markers and the Aqua Shimmer Pen and it is SO SHIMMERY!!!! I just love the effect!!
Picture

You can also PAINT ITEMS with Acrylic Paint!! I like to squeeze out a *tiny bit* of Acrylic Paint onto my craft mat and then paint with my Aqua Shimmer Pen.

Below, check out how I painted one of these Wood Veneer Flying Keys with a little bit of Black Acyrlic Paint and the Aqua Shimmer Pen... the Flying Key is now SO GLITTERY!!!

There are SO MANY IDEAS for painting with your Aqua Shimmer Pen!!!
