Last week for our Lunchtime Demo we showed you one of our favorite new tools and what you can do with it! The Silicone Craft Mat (by Imagine Crafts) is versatile and the best part is... you can store it in a giant wrinkled ball and it ALWAYS stays flat! When Elli did the demo, she used it like a Gelli-plate in that she did mono-prints with sprays and alcohol inks. She made a quick shape out of hot glue right onto the mat, did some sprays in a series of colors, pulled away the glue-stencil, and then used white paper to pull up the spray design off the mat. Using that idea, Elli did pulls of different combinations of sprays and alcohol inks to create the sunset style background and ink splots.
One of the other really cool things you can do with the mat and hot glue is make letters.. you can write out someone's name, wait 1 minute, then peel it off the mat and glue it onto your paper. Apply your gold leafing and use a dry brush to pull it away! What you are left with is your writing in GOLD!! As an alternative you can apply alcohol inks to colorize your hot-glue image or letters!
One of the most favorite things was using hot glue as faux wax seals. Squirt out a dollop of hot glue, wait 1 minute, then press your seal into the glue. Wait about 15 seconds then peel away the hot glue from the seal. I used both acrylic paint and then Inka Gold to colorize the seal and then just a little bit of glue on the backside to attach it to an envelope. You can also press a screw head into a tiny drop of hot glue, paint it silver, and you have screw heads that look like little brads!
